About the role

We are looking for a talented Junior Research & Innovation Engineer to join our dynamic team at Enovis, located in Villanova di San Daniele (UD).

The successful candidate will implement algorithms for orthopedic applications, focusing on developing tools that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our product development engineers.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing algorithms with a focus on clean and maintainable code.

• Maintaining and enhancing our existing codebase to support ongoing product development and research activities.

Your work will directly contribute to advance our research and innovation efforts in the field of biomechanics and orthopedics.

If you are passionate about innovation in biomechanics, and enjoy solving complex problems, we encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet every requirement listed. Critical thinking, creativity, adaptability, and willingness to learn are just as important.

Hybrid working is allowed with a few days per week spent in the office.

You might thrive in this role if you:

• Hold a PhD or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

• Enjoy implementing new algorithms for biomechanics applications in orthopedics.

• Have 2+ years of experience with Python and a basic understanding of object-oriented programming.

• Are proficient in English (at least B2 level).

• Are willing to write clean and maintainable code.

• Are familiar with Git and with code editors/IDEs such as PyCharm, VS Code, or IntelliJ.

• Are comfortable using popular Python libraries like NumPy, SciPy, Pandas and TensorFlow.

• Possess basic knowledge of medical imaging techniques and human anatomy.

• Are proactive, results-oriented, and a natural problem solver.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and have a willingness to learn.

• Thrive in a collaborative environment and can communicate complex ideas effectively.

We highly appreciate candidates showing us their contributions to the open-source community (e.g. public GitHub repos). In addition, having a basic understanding of one the following would be an advantage (in descending order of importance):

1. Statistical shape modeling.

2. Supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques.

3. Basics of generative AI (e.g., diffusion models, LLMs, prompt engineering) and their application to engineering or research workflows.

4. Scala and C++ programming languages.

5. Optimization algorithms (gradient-based, evolutionary).

6. FEA software (e.g., Ansys, Nastran, or Abaqus).

7. CAD software like Siemens NX or SolidWorks.

8. Mimics for image segmentation.

9. DevOps/MLOps practices.

10. Database technologies such as SQL.

Examples of day-to-day activities

• Implement new algorithms for biomechanics applications.

• Maintain and improve the existing codebase.

• Develop solutions leveraging the Siemens NX API.

• Write unit tests.

• Conduct research activities, including literature reviews.

• Investigate, debug, and resolve technical issues.

• Work closely with product development teams to integrate new features and enhancements based on their requirements.

• Analyze and optimize algorithm performance.
