Job description:
Specific Job Responsibility
Respond to all structural and wildland fires within the mine jurisdiction
Attend to all emergency incidents including road traffic accidents, hazardous material spills and floods
Conduct rescue operations for trapped individuals and animals
Safely handle and relocate snakes and reptiles from operational areas
Provide first aid and basic life support to injured personnel
Perform routine inspection, testing, and maintenance of all ERT equipment and vehicles
Ensure all statutory inspection checklists are completed accurately
Maintain fire and ambulance vehicles in a state of readiness
Inspect and maintain fire safety installations (hydrants, hose reels, extinguishers, eye wash stations, etc.)
Participate in ongoing training, drills, and skill development programs
Conduct site inspections to identify and mitigate fire risks
Clean and secure incident sites post-response
Familiarize with the mine layout to ensure rapid emergency response
Promote fire safety awareness within the mine and surrounding community
Perform additional duties assigned by the ERT Team Leader
Assist in the implementation of emergency response plans
Support in evacuation drills and post-incident reviews
Maintain accurate records of incidents, training, and equipment maintenance
Collaborate with other departments to ensure integrated emergency preparedness
Provide mentorship and guidance to new or trainee team members
Effective and timely emergency response

Minimum 1- 2 year/s of relevant experience, preferably in the mining industry
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Proficient in reading technical manuals and safety documentation

Knowledge of safety management systems
Fire training and instructional capabilities
Effective and timely emergency response
Qualifications
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
Grade 12 Certificate with a credit in English and Mathematics
NFPA 1001- Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 or equivalent international qualification.
Valid Class B or C Driver’s License
Other fire and rescue Qualifications will be your advantage:
NFPA 1072 / 472 – Hazmat Awareness
NFPA 1072 / 472 – Hazmat Operations
NFPA 1006 - Rope Rescue Awareness
NFPA 1006 - Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Awareness
NFPA 1006 - Confined Space Rescue Awareness
Emergency Medical Technician-Basic
