What will you work on?
We’re looking for a curious, hands-on Junior Model Maker to support our busy in-house model shop. You’ll work directly with the Senior Model Maker and cross-functional partners (Design, Product Development, Engineering Innovation) to turn concepts and CAD into high-quality looks-like and works-like models. This role focuses on post-print finishing, paint prep, small assemblies, and being the reliable support that keeps the shop moving — with opportunities to learn advanced fabrication techniques and step into the lead when the Senior Model Maker is away.
How will you create impact?
Set up print builds, select appropriate print material, and run 3D printers.
Perform post-print processing for FDM and SLA parts, including de-support, sand and finish to a high surface quality.
Perform routine maintenance on 3D printers and other key shop machinery.
Mask and prepare parts for painting.
Mix paint accurately to a specified pantone color, prime and lay down base coats.
Explore new concepts for toys, create kit-bash samples to prove out features and feasibility.
Building simple mock-ups and quick proof-of-concept models to help evaluate ideas
Triage and manage model shop tickets: prioritize work, track due dates, and flag risks early.
Assemble and repair models; diagnose failures and propose fixes.
Maintain shop cleanliness and care for tools and equipment.
Manage inventory levels and submit weekly order requests.
Support small experimental builds and process improvement projects under Senior guidance.
Communicate timelines, constraints, and options to meet the deliverable scope and timeline with requestors (Design/Engineering) in a professional manner.
What are your skills and experience?
Practical experience sanding/finishing 3D printed parts.
Experience with basic hand tools and building, modifying, and assembling small parts.
Familiarity with FDM and SLA printing basics (materials, support removal, common defects).
Proficient with basic office tools (Outlook, Excel) and willing to learn ticketing/CAD tools.
