Join our team as we modernize a core enterprise investment product data system responsible for sourcing, storing, and distributing Vanguard Investment Product Data. As a Junior Application Engineer, you’ll be part of a Global, product‑aligned engineering team, contributing to the analysis, design, development, and implementation of modern applications and databases—all while growing your technical craft in a supportive environment.
**This hybrid role (in office Tues-Wed-Thurs) is based in Melbourne, AU**
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to system analysis, design, development, and implementation activities across applications and databases—including integration of third‑party solutions.
- Translate technical specifications into clean, maintainable code for moderately complex enhancements and new features.
- Develop, test, and deploy software using modern engineering practices and automation-focused test design.
- Promote quality by participating in design, code, and test reviews throughout the development lifecycle.
- Elevate code through dev, test, and production environments while supporting change control processes.
- Provide production support and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Follow established engineering standards, architectural guidelines, and software development methodologies.
- Build an understanding of client needs, business processes, and how enterprise tools and systems interact across the organization.
- Uphold Information Security and Technology policies and controls.
- Contribute to team initiatives, special projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
What We’re Looking For
3–5 years of hands‑on development experience in modern engineering environments.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience; higher qualifications are a plus.
Practical experience with AWS and CI/CD tooling (Git/GitHub, pipelines, automation).
Proficiency in Python and testing frameworks such as Pytest.
Experience with AWS services including SQS/SNS, RDS, EC2, Lambda, CloudFormation, API Gateway, Glue, and Athena.
Experience integrating with or supporting identity platforms such as Okta.
Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming principles.
Curiosity and interest in developing domain knowledge in Investment / Financial Services.
Understanding of Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks.
A passion for writing quality, maintainable, and secure code.
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for technical and non‑technical audiences.
A collaborative, open mindset with a drive for learning, continuous improvement, and problem‑solving.
