Role responsibilities 

The core responsibilities will provide a breadth of experience to train as a chartered accountant. The role will benefit from sponsored ACCA study support, and the varied responsibilities will meet the practical experience requirements for the qualification.

Banking and Treasury

  • Oversee daily banking activities by reconciling accounts, ensuring precise transaction allocation and liaising with key internal stakeholders to obtain relevant and timely information to support postings.
  • Support the daily treasury process and liaise with the FCA’s third party investment advisors to enable the FCA to make suitable treasury investment decisions.

Management accounting

  • Expand your accounting and financial control knowledge through production of accurate and timely journals.

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for various central accounts and build your relationships with business stakeholders to understand the detail of transactions.

Financial Accounting and reporting

  • Contribute to financial excellence by supporting the production of the annual financial statements.

  • Provide information and support to the external auditors and deal with audit queries promptly.

  • Showcase attention to detail by preparing quarterly expense schedules for senior leadership, reconciling travel and expense data and coordinating with stakeholders to meet publishing deadlines, all while raising your profile across the wider FCA.

  • Support any Freedom of Information requests requiring information held by Financial Control team.

Taxation

  • Lead on the production of the FCA’s annual Payroll Settlement Agreement, liaising with external taxation advisors where required.

  • Support other team members in the delivery of other areas of taxation (such as VAT and Corporation Tax).

Other ad-hoc responsibilities to support the operations of the Financial Control team will also be required.

Skills required 

Minimum: 

  • Prior experience in relevant accounting/finance role(s) or accounting experience through higher education

  • Demonstrated experience in proficient computer literacy and advanced Microsoft Excel skills applied to financial tasks

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering accurate financial analysis and reporting with knowledge of finance systems and how they can be used

Essential:  

  • Ability to communicate effectively and guide stakeholders while building strong collaborative relationships across teams

  • Skilled at identifying and addressing shortcomings in processes with a focus on ongoing enhancement and practical solutions

  • Capability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines with proficiency in presenting ideas.

  • Strong analytical skills (i.e. assessment of accounting issues and resolution).
