In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Configuration Management and Design Services Department is currently hiring for a Journeyperson – Electrical Drafting.
As directed by the First Line Manager, the Journeyperson – Electrical Drafting will prepare and check the revision or creation of electrical drawings, associated lists or databases used for the purpose of design of engineered works in accordance with approved procedures, methods and standards. More specifically, this involves the layout of design schemes to satisfy specific engineering needs, the checking of work of others within the group and performing coordinating checks on drawings by other engineering groups.
Key Responsibilities:
Revise or create electrical drawings, associated lists or databases to portray established design schemes of apparatus, equipment and materials including all pertinent information but is not limited to high and low voltage switching structures, grounding, lightning protection, power cables and duct systems, control cable systems (cable pans and conduit), building services (power supplies, lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning), switchboards (control metering and relaying), station service power supplies, steam boilers, turbines and generators and provision for such miscellaneous systems as telephone, public address radio communication, security alarms and fire detection and control and the like where there is a recorded design precedent and specified conditions of change carried out utilizing Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) technology and the computer wiring program which involves an understanding of Cable Block Diagrams, Electrical Arrangements and Elementary Wiring Diagrams
Prepare/update plant wiring based using the computer wiring program on established design criteria using computerized software specific to engineering requirements
Study the given assignment and data supplied, obtain other supporting data, review standard practices and/or previous assignments which may provide relevant information
Discuss any problem and tentative solution with engineering personnel and other groups as directed
Correlate the work effort with others as necessary and report problems causing production delays
Perform calculations as necessary, using the principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry or special formulae supplied with instruction for use
Contact other groups as directed to clarify problems or obtain missing information
Proceed with drawing preparation and resolve technical problems encountered
Submit completed work as directed
Revise as required, to achieve an acceptable product
Prepare Bills of Material, Master Equipment List or computer input forms as required
Prepare the work in the prescribed manner by listing such features as material description, make and catalogue identification (Cat. ID), code markings and quantity for each different type of material shown on the drawings
Perform any necessary calculations to ascertain length, area, volume or weight required for material description or quantity
Make use of catalogues or the given data to compile the required detail
Relate each material item to the drawings by cross-referencing numbers or other symbols
Check completed work prepared by others within the group for accuracy, adequacy of technical content, suitability for stated purpose, and the adherence to departmental standards and practices, and perform coordinating checks on drawings submitted from other engineering groups
Check work by either marking unacceptable part or returning works to drafter or forward completed work to Supervisor or designate
Estimate and assign portions of the work to others as directed, with appropriate work outline, sketches, references, applicable standards and practices
Provide technical guidance and maintain a check on quality and accuracy
May be required to participate of other work within the drafting section, including Mechanical or Civil, as governed by procedures as deemed necessary by the Supervisor or designate
Requires entering the station or other site areas during outage/non-outage where there is exposure to hazards such as radiation, steam, etc, for duties such as field walk-downs or verifications
Required to maintain Orange Badge qualification
Maintain an awareness of all policies, practices and procedures, including a working knowledge of Radiation and Fire Protection
Load supplies into plotters, printers or copiers as required
Help to maintain the equipment in relation to problems of paper tearing or other matters of a routine operating problem
Maintain and order supplies
As requested, show others, internal and external personnel, how the Computer Aided Drafting System (CADS) workstation operates
Demonstrate the use of equipment, operating techniques, etc, to interested parties
Identify opportunities for improved efficiency or other innovations to line management
Perform field walkdowns as required/requested
Coordination with lead database administrator to optimise database performance
Plan and manage data standardization across applicable Engineering modules
Assist with planning and implementation of the extraction from engineering documentation (tag (s), document number, discipline, document type, revision, any associated attribute information etc.)
Support information handover requirements per applicable governance as project moves from phase to the other
Update and maintain MEL in the EAMS database. Identify problems and make recommendations for solutions.
Ability to navigate in Content Server
Perform other duties as required
Knowledge and Skills:
Requires a sound knowledge of drafting principles and techniques, using Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD), to prepare I&C (Instrumentation and Control) and electrical drawings associated with the type of work being undertaken for the purpose of design, procurement of materials or construction
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Highly developed electrical, mechanical and/or civil drafting skills
Knowledge of, and experience with, Microsoft Office Suite
Familiar with relational database programming and maintenance using Oracle, SQL server (or equivalent)
Familiarity with CFIHOS/ ISO 15926 (or equivalent) data standards is an asset
Education and Experience:
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of a 2-year college diploma in Drafting & Design Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Database Administrator or equivalent
Experience with AVEVA is considered an asset
Requires experience performing electrical/I&C drafting
Requires experience with, and a sound understanding of, the types of drawings involved, terminology used, relationships between groups, electrical circuit (Mechanical: piping; civil: structures and infrastructure) principles and applicable drafting standards and practices
Experience in updating On-Line Wiring (OLW) would be considered an asset
Experience with AutoCAD, OLW and/or SolidWorks software
Over 4 years up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
