Let’s be #BrilliantTogether

Overview

Money is Australia’s most-trusted personal finance platform. Our monthly print magazine, daily news website and podcast are must-haves for Australians who want to stay informed, benefit from well-told stories and access expert advice.

We are currently looking for a journalist to join our team. We are after someone who has a background in personal finance as well as a love of consumer and people stories; a journalist who is curious, smart and has their finger firmly on the pulse of current events.

This role will involve producing stories for the print magazine and our online site, as well as podcasts and videos across a range of topics that include, but are not limited to, money management, spending, investing, superannuation, property and shares.

Responsibilities

  • Research and produce articles, including news and feature stories for Money magazine and website. This includes cross-purpose stories to be used on both platforms.
  • Record podcasts and short videos for embedding in stories as well as reels for social.
  • Bring ideas and participate in regular editorial meetings to develop story ideas across the platform.
  • Attend media launches/briefings as a representative of Money and stay on top of news in the finance world.
  • Be responsible for certain editorial admin duties as assigned by the managing editor.
  • Work with other teams within the broader Rainmaker Group to harness proprietary research for the benefit of Money readers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, media studies, finance or similar.
  • Minimum of four years' experience in a similar role; preferably in digital media (experience in print is a plus).
  • Background in consumer journalism/personal finance journalism/data journalism is an advantage.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills as well as superb networking capabilities.
  • Capable of maintaining an ethical and objective standard in reporting.
  • Have a keen eye for news and societal trends and the ability to parlay that into relevant finance stories for our readers (with an eye on what is right for daily digital publishing and what is appropriate for monthly print publishing).
  • Possess organisational and time-management capabilities.
  • Understand the landscape of the finance sector – including associations, representative and governance bodies as well as government policies.
  • A willingness to do legwork to find case studies.
