Position Overview

As part of the Boateka team, the Janitorial and Facilities Support Crew plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, organized, and operationally efficient facility. This role provides day‑to‑day janitorial support, assists with lot and yard organization, and supports operational teams by performing a wide range of general labor tasks. The position helps ensure that boats, equipment, and work areas remain clean, orderly, and safe, while providing flexible support across multiple departments as operational needs shift.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail‑oriented, comfortable working both outdoors and indoors, and able to contribute effectively as part of a hands-on, fast-moving operations environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain facility cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and spot-cleaning floors and surfaces.
  • Empty trash, replace liners, and ensure proper waste disposal throughout the facility.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, restock supplies, and maintain cleanliness of shared spaces.
  • Clean windows, glass surfaces, and high-touch areas as required.
  • Support boat preparation activities, including washing boats, wiping surfaces, and maintaining sale‑ready appearance to prevent lot rot.
  • Assist with staging and movement of boats within the lot, yard, or designated storage areas as directed.
  • Help maintain clean, organized yard and workspace areas by removing trash, debris, and clutter.
  • Perform light general labor tasks including basic repairs, cleaning equipment usage, and routine upkeep of facility tools and supplies.
  • Assist team members with simple operational tasks such as organizing materials, retrieving equipment, or supporting yard workflows.
  • Conduct basic inspections of facility equipment and report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.
  • Follow all safety protocols related to cleaning chemicals, equipment operation, boat movement, and facility procedures.
  • Support operational teams during high‑volume periods by contributing to cross‑departmental tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as needed to ensure overall facility upkeep and operational readiness.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Proven experience as custodian, janitor, porter, or similar role.
  • Understanding of cleaning methods and proper usage of cleaning products and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of boats and marine equipment preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining clean, safe, and organized work areas.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility in schedule, including evenings, weekends, or operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in a marine dealership, marina, refurb facility, or boatyard.
  • Experience with detailing tools and refurb equipment, such as buffers, pressure washers, extractors, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Previous experience supporting sales teams with boat staging, customer demonstrations, or inventory presentations.
  • Customer‑service experience, especially in high‑traffic retail or operations environments.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor Exposure: Frequent work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and direct sun exposure while working on or around boats, trailers, and yard equipment.
  • Physical Demands: Regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.
  • Facility & Yard Environment: Work performed in a marine dealership, warehouse, refurb area, wash bay, and general yard spaces with exposure to water, noise, dust, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Equipment Use: Routine use of pressure washers, buffers, cleaning tools, yard tractors, forklifts (if certified), and related marine equipment.
  • Safety Requirements: Must follow all safety procedures related to chemical handling, PPE requirements, equipment operation, and movement of boats and trailers.
  • Customer‑Facing Situations: Occasional interaction with customers while staging boats or maintaining the sales lot; professional conduct required.
  • Schedule: May require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on operational and sales demands.
  • Noise Levels: Moderate to high noise levels at times due to engines, machinery, and yard activities.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $16 to $17, hourly. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
