ITV Specialist - Senior

Participates in System Design to develop requirements that can be practically validated and defines the methods of validation. Prepares test plans, procedures, and reports to validate specified requirements. Performs tests in-plant and at project sites in accordance with these test plans and procedures. Plans, estimates, directs, and leads Project ITV work. Writes test automation scripts.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performs analysis of system, subsystem, and software requirements to define validation methods and test cases

  • Plans the ITV Project work, including the preparation of ITV test plans

  • Plans and performs integration and test activities in-house and at project sites to mitigate key project commissioning risks

  • Prepares Test Procedures in accordance with ITV test plans

  • Performs commissioning tests in plant and at project sites

  • Prepares test reports which record the pass/fail status of planned tests and identify problems detected during the tests

  • Directs, supervises, and reviews the work of more junior staff performing ITV work

  • Supervises test staff both in-plant and in the field in assignments/tasks, ensuring application of standards, practices/procedures, quality assurance, and adherence to budgets

  • Trains and develops the skills of more junior staff

  • Develops product knowledge through formal and informal training, on-the-job training, and self-study

  • Investigates test anomalies through analysis of data files, design documentation, and interaction with development departments

  • Prepares problem reports in the defect tracking system describing test failures and defects

  • Assists in the development of ITV schedules, budgets, and associated progress reporting

  • Participates in marketing activity by estimating new project work costs, drafting proposed commissioning, and responding to project RFQs

  • Extended travel to the field site is required in accordance with company policy

  • Forms and leads dedicated Project ITV Teams

  • Identifies test objectives and test cases

  • Keeps current with company test processes and methods

  • Performs traceability analysis

  • Conducts design reviews

  • Plans, organizes, and supervises testing activities

  • Assists in the development of ITV processes and tools

  • Supports project schedule and budget activities

Key Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in testing embedded real-time systems or equivalent software/hardware testing experience

  • B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent

  • Real-time embedded mission-critical system testing experience

  • Knowledge of railway signaling techniques

  • Familiarity with test methods and procedures

  • Proficiency in technical writing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of company products (SelTrac)

  • Competence in team leadership

  • Familiarity with systems to be employed

  • Understanding of the roles of other departments as related to Verification and Validation/Test
