The opportunity
We are now looking for an IT/OT Specialist at Hitachi Energy in Vaasa, Finland. In this role you will support, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of IT and OT systems and infrastructure, that are critical to our manufacturing operations. You will help ensure stable, secure, and efficient digital services across the organization, with a particular focus on operational technology environments.
This is a hands-on role where you will work close to the factory floor, supporting daily operations through on‑site troubleshooting, system maintenance, and user support. You play an important role in maintaining a secure and reliable production environment, helping our manufacturing teams operate safely and without disruption.
You will collaborate closely with end users, factory teams, external vendors, and global cybersecurity specialists. Your focus will be on resolving issues efficiently, strengthening system security, and supporting the digital connectivity of our production environment.
This role also offers opportunities to grow and take increasing responsibility over time. You will contribute to IT and OT‑related projects and play an active part in the digitalization of our new Power Transformers factory in Vaasa, scheduled for completion in spring 2027. The upcoming Hitachi Energy Park will feature a state‑of‑the‑art transformer factory as well as modern office and testing facilities, significantly expanding company’s transformer production and testing capacity in Finland.
How you´ll make an impact
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for hardware, software, and network issues for internal users.
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, applications, and network devices.
- Monitor system performance and availability, identifying and resolving potential problems proactively.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls in accordance with security policies.
- Assist with the implementation and deployment of new IT solutions and technologies.
- Document IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
- Participate in IT projects, including planning, execution, and post-implementation support.
- Conduct regular data backups and ensure data integrity and recovery capabilities.
- Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to resolve complex technical issues.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in the IT and digitalization field.
Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Already some years of experience in an IT support or general IT specialist role.
- Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and their administration.
- Proficiency in network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
- Experience with hardware troubleshooting and component replacement.
- Familiarity with common software applications and productivity suites (e.g., Microsoft Office 365).
- Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, ITIL) are a plus.
- Knowledge and understanding of production development, automation and machine connectivity is a plus.
- Fluency in Finnish and English, both written and spoken
