IT/OT Backup & Storage Engineer

Location: India (Hyderabad)

Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across three continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together—devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world.

We are looking for an IT/OT Backup & Storage Engineer (Storage, Fileshare & Backup Architect / System Owner) to design, optimize, and govern Lonza’s enterprise storage, file services, and backup ecosystem across both IT and OT environments.

This role ensures that global data platforms are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with business continuity requirements. You will play a key role in driving operational excellence, advancing technology strategy, and safeguarding Lonza’s critical data assets while enabling reliable, high‑performing infrastructure services.

What you’ll get

  • A critical infrastructure role within a global life sciences organization
  • Opportunity to shape enterprise storage and data protection strategy
  • Exposure to modern and hybrid IT/OT environments and technologies
  • Collaboration with global teams across IT, OT, and business functions
  • A collaborative, inclusive, and ethical workplace culture
  • Competitive compensation and benefits aligned with role and experience

What you’ll do

  • Define and continuously evolve the enterprise architecture and strategy for storage, file services, and backup solutions across IT and OT environments
  • Establish and enforce standards, governance frameworks, documentation, and best practices for storage, fileshare, and backup platforms
  • Drive the long‑term technology roadmap for data storage and protection, aligned with business, regulatory, and operational requirements
  • Analyze and optimize the current technology landscape (e.g., Nutanix, NetApp, Data Domain, Synology), improving performance and mitigating operational and security risks
  • Own and evaluate backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Acronis), ensuring business continuity readiness and performing cost‑benefit and replacement assessments
  • Design, standardize, and maintain enterprise file services (NAS, CIFS/SMB, NFS, Object Storage) to ensure high availability, performance, and compliance
  • Lead complex incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution related to storage, fileshare, and backup technologies
  • Ensure backup, restore, and disaster recovery readiness through validation, testing, and continuous process improvement
  • Plan and oversee rollouts, upgrades, migrations, and deployments of storage and backup platforms
  • Coordinate with internal IT/OT teams and external vendors to ensure successful delivery of data storage and protection initiatives
  • Evaluate vendor solutions, support RFP/RFQ processes, and act as a trusted technical advisor during procurement and contract discussions

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5–10 years of hands‑on experience in enterprise storage, fileshare, and backup technologies in complex environments
  • Deep expertise in storage architectures (SAN, NAS, Object Storage) and file protocols (SMB/CIFS, NFS)
  • Strong experience with backup and recovery platforms such as Veeam, Acronis, and Data Domain
  • Proven ability to design and operate solutions across heterogeneous infrastructure environments (Nutanix, NetApp, Synology, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of data protection, resilience, availability, and security principles
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues end‑to‑end
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, resilient, and cost‑effective technical solutions
  • Experience evaluating vendor offerings and supporting procurement and financial decision‑making

  • An agile career and dynamic working culture
  • An inclusive and ethical workplace
