Summary of Job Duties:

UA Little Rock needs a Junior Systems Administrator that is comfortable working in a small to medium enterprise size environment capable of supporting the installation, maintenance, support, and architecture of both LINUX and Windows based operating systems.

The ideal candidate should have 1-3 years of supporting these operating systems in a production environment and be capable of independent work and minimal oversight.

This is a full spectrum position where candidates will be expected to understand how to deploy, harden, and maintain production systems in physical and virtual environments. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

Associate degree in computer or information science, information security, or equivalent work experience and at least 2 years of Linux or Windows system administration experience.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

2-5 years of working server administration experience with multiple OS platforms (Linux/Windows) in both physical and virtual environments; 1-2 years of experience with a common scripting language(s); 1-3 years of experience with identity and access management services such as Active Directory, SSO authentication, etc.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Install, configure, and maintain enterprise IT system hardware (servers, storage, appliances, etc.);
•    Install, configure, and maintain enterprise IT system operating systems (Windows, Unix, etc.);
•    Install, configure, and maintain data application services (databases, directories, “middleware,” etc.);
•    Install, configure, and maintain application software (email, web servers, etc.)
•    Configure, integrate, and maintain relationships with providers of externally-hosted IT services;
•    Track and resolve service requests with hardware and software vendors;
•    Monitor vendor and industry security alerts and update notifications and perform software and firmware updates to protect the security and stability of IT systems; 
•    Provide direct, second- or third-tier, and internal user support for a variety of software applications and services; 
•    Respond to, evaluate, and correct IT system failures during and outside regular work hours;
•    Develop processes for automation of repeated administrative tasks; 
•    Develop integration processes between heterogeneous computing systems;
•    Generate detailed requirements and specifications for systems-level application development;
•    Analyze business processes and institutional requirements to recommend technical solutions;
•    Conduct research on hardware and software components of IT systems in support of procurement and development efforts
•    Advise and assist clients in IT systems evaluation, purchase, installation, configuration, and maintenance 
•    Evaluate client needs for network configuration changes and interface with network administrators to implement changes;
•    Produce and maintain technical documentation (procedures, operational statuses, etc.);
•    Maintain accurate records necessary for IT systems operations (equipment inventory, licenses, support contracts, etc. );
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

•    Knowledge of best-practice enterprise computing standards and procedures;
•    Knowledge of TCP/IP networking principles and configuration;
•    Knowledge of computing system operating system principles, installation, and configuration;
•    Knowledge of computing system application software installation and configuration; 
•    Knowledge of systems programming languages and techniques for task automation; 
•    Ability to analyze problems and develop a systematic approach to resolve them;
•    Ability to follow complex procedures in a methodical manner;
•    Ability to analyze and deploy new technology from available technical documentation;
•    Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team;
•    Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and manage time to meet deadlines;
•    Written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required to provide effective technical user support;
•    Communication and interpersonal skills required to provide technical leadership and training to other staff;
•    Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation;
•    Ability to prioritize tasks and work calmly and effectively in occasional high-stress situations;
•    Ability to perform critical tasks carefully without error.
