Arriva is one of the largest transport services organisations in Europe, employing more than 34,000 people and delivering more than 1.6 billion passenger journeys across 11 European countries every year. We have strong roots dating back to 1938, an ambitious growth agenda, and a continuously developing relationship with I Squared who acquired Arriva in 2024.
Arriva is delivering a major enterprise transformation programme implementing Oracle Fusion ERP, EPM and SCM, alongside an existing Workday platform which is currently being optimised.
As such we are looking for an IT Project Manager on a fixed-term contract until April 2027 to support delivery across a key period, ensuring that IT is fully mobilised, coordinated and equipped to support both the Oracle Fusion programme and ongoing Workday optimisation.
This is not a traditional oversight PM role. It requires a hands-on delivery leader who can translate System Integrator (SI) requirements into actionable IT plans, work closely with a growing and evolving IT function, and ensure that all technical activities - particularly integrations - are understood, planned and delivered effectively.
The successful candidate will act as the connector between Deloitte, internal IT teams and the wider programme, while also supporting the prioritisation and coordination of IT activity relating to Workday enhancements and optimisation.
This role will be on a hybrid working basis, a minimum of 3 days per week in the Sunderland, London, Aintree, Wakefield or Thurmaston office, the rest focusing on where you can best deliver for your customers, whilst still allowing for the required work life balance.
Key responsibilities would include:
IT Delivery Coordination & Execution
- Own and coordinate IT delivery activities across the Oracle Fusion programme.
- Translate SI (Deloitte) technical requirements into clear, actionable plans for internal IT teams.
- Ensure IT deliverables are defined, sequenced and fully integrated into the programme plan.
- Take ownership of delivery for selected IT activities where appropriate.
Integration & Technical Workstream Oversight
- Coordinate and track all integration-related activities, ensuring dependencies are understood and managed.
- Work with IT teams to ensure readiness across environments, interfaces and supporting systems.
- Ensure integration delivery aligns to programme milestones and phased releases.
Workday Optimisation Support
- Work with business and IT stakeholders to ensure Workday improvements are prioritised and delivered effectively.
- Ensure Workday-related IT activities are aligned with broader programme plans and resource capacity.
- Support the existing BAU Workday team/IT teams to deliver programme activity if required.
Stakeholder & Partner Management
Act as a key interface between:
- System Integrator
- Internal IT teams
- Programme leadership and delivery teams
- Provide clarity and challenge to ensure IT requirements are understood and deliverable.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships across business and technology stakeholders.
IT Capability Build & Enablement
- Support the development of capability within the internal IT function as it matures in Oracle Fusion.
- Work alongside IT colleagues to build confidence, understanding and ownership of deliverables.
- Embed structured, sustainable ways of working aligned to programme delivery.
Planning, Tracking & Governance
- Ensure all IT activities (across Fusion and Workday) are fully represented within the programme plan, including dependencies and risks, working closely with the relevant SI partner Workstream lead.
- Track progress, manage issues and escalate where required.
- Provide clear reporting on IT delivery status to programme leadership.
What we are looking for:
We’re looking for an experienced IT Project Manager who enjoys delivering complex system change and taking ownership of outcomes. You’ll be comfortable working in fast-paced environments, combining strong technical understanding with a hands-on, delivery-focused approach.
Candidates will preferably:
- Demonstrate experience delivering IT workstreams within ERP or HR system transformation programmes
- Have a strong understanding of system integration and managing technical dependencies
- Bring experience working with System Integrators and translating technical requirements into clear delivery plans
- Show a hands-on approach, taking ownership to drive delivery rather than purely overseeing it
- Demonstrate strong planning, coordination and stakeholder management across IT and business teams
Desirable:
- Experience supporting or delivering enhancements, optimisation or BAU change within platforms such as Workday or Oracle Fusion
- Experience working within or alongside developing or maturing IT functions
- Relevant certifications (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, Agile, ITIL) or equivalent professional experience
This role will suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail, driving delivery in complex environments, and taking real ownership for outcomes rather than simply overseeing process.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 6 May 2026. Arriva Group reserves the right to close this vacancy early.
