Summary

The Iowa State University Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an experienced IT Project Manager to lead technological initiatives that directly support our institutional goals and strategic priorities. This role is ideal for a project management professional who enjoys working across diverse technical domains and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.

In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders and technical teams. You will facilitate project meetings, drive decision-making, manage expectations, and ensure that project communications are clear, consistent, and tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will also identify and manage project risks and issues, coordinate resolutions, and maintain all required project documentation and reporting artifacts.

The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and demonstrated experience managing IT projects. You should be comfortable working with cross-functional teams, balancing competing priorities, and maintaining a high level of documentation discipline and stakeholder engagement. Familiarity with both traditional and agile project management approaches is highly desirable, and professional certifications such as PMP®, CAPM®, or PMI-ACP® are preferred but not required.

This position does provide the opportunity for hybrid work. The employee must reside in the state of Iowa on or before the start of employment.

Example of Duties
•    Coordinates installation, maintenance, and evaluation of current network communications including LAN/WAN systems.
•    Coordinates with vendors for obtaining items such as routers and switches for installation.
•    Supports project planning, cost analysis, and vendor comparisons.
•    Plans and executes work for project implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Progressively responsible project management experience, preferably in an IT environment.

  • Project management certification (PMP®, CAPM®, PMI-ACP®) or demonstrated progress toward certification.

  • Experience delivering projects using Waterfall, Agile/Scrum, and/or hybrid methodologies.

  • Experience with enterprise project and work-management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Smartsheet, MS Project).

  • Experience supporting higher education, public-sector, or similarly complex stakeholder environments.

Additional Skills Considered Valuable

  • Customer-service mindset with ability to build trust and navigate competing priorities.

  • Strong written communication: meeting notes, status reports, RAID logs, and executive summaries.

  •  Experience facilitating cross-functional governance (steering committees, change control, decision logs).

  •  Proficiency with project tooling (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Azure DevOps) and Excel-based tracking.

  •  Budget/vendor coordination experience (SOW review, renewals, invoice tracking) in partnership with procurement/finance.

  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and drive consensus on scope/schedule tradeoffs.
