Job Summary: This vacancy is for a IT Cybersecurity Specialist in the Bureau of Industry and Security within the Department of Commerce.

Major Duties:

  • As a IT Cybersecurity Specialist, you will perform the following duties: Oversees software, hardware, and systems engineers developing new and refining/enhancing exisiting technical capabilities, ensuring full intergration with security objectives, principles and processes. Designs and leads risk analyses, feasiblity studies, and/or trade-offs analyses to refine functional requirements and specifications and maintain technical seucurity configuration baselines. Coordinates with systems architects and developers, as needed, to provide oversight in the development of design solutions Leads and manages teams that peform cybersecurity funcitions (e.g encryption, access control and identify management) to reduce expolitation opportunities. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other IT Cybersecurity Specialist GS-2210-13/14, FPL GS-14 positions within the Department of Commerce in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify for the position applicant must met the individual occupational requirements Basic Requirements and the specialized experience for each grade level. Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements: In the Information Technology Specialist, GS-2210 occupation for the GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent) must have Information Technology (IT) related experience demonstrating each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations .Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. AND To qualify at the GS-13 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Providing technical advice, counsel, and instruction on cyber security issues; and Conducting cybersecurity assessments and penetration tests, analyzed related program data, and coordinated technical efforts across an agency; and Exchanging information in connection with cyber security requirements; preparing various reports, briefings, summaries, and progress reports pertaining to this are. To qualify at the GS-14 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Leading a digital services team to facilitate a secure environment for the implementation of the mission and business objectives; and Evaluating existing new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks, recommending mitigation or countermeasures; and Leading/managing the assessment of databases, applications, and information system components; and Recommending methodologies that improve the security of a cloud-based infrastructure.
