Irrigation Supervisor

We are searching for candidates that meet the required qualifications and experience and are able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the maintenance, repair and minor installation of all campus irrigation systems. Supervise district irrigation crew. Must be licensed through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Direct maintenance, repair, and operation activities of irrigation systems and associated infrastructure. Respond to equipment/system failures, issue and monitor work orders, and respond to customer requests. Ensure compliance with EPA, FLSA, OSHA, NFPA and TDLR policies on a federal, state and local level. Serve as backup to the grounds manager in his/her absence.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision for a team of 3+ professionals responsible for irrigation across 10 locations, encompassing 776 total acres.
  • Ensure optimal operation of all irrigation systems.
  • Develop preventive maintenance standards, policies, protocols and procedures for the maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Direct the completion of work orders and ordering materials and supplies.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and minor installation of all campus irrigation systems, while addressing water conservation requirements according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
  • Must know all aspects of repair and installation of landscape irrigation, including disassembly and reassembly of irrigation valves, electrical wiring, and troubleshooting, and operate within department, municipal, state, and federal guidelines. Properly prepare pertinent reports.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System to track all maintenance, repairs, and related work orders.
  • Maintain inventory of parts needed for irrigation system maintenance; keep parts and stockroom clean and organized.
  • Direct and oversee assigned staff and equipment for district wide irrigation projects.
  • Report to and coordinate tasks with grounds manager or grounds foreman, facility zone managers, and construction Staff.
  • Identify other landscape problems and initiate solutions or report them immediately.
  • Perform other tasks such as mowing edging, planting, pruning and other landscape-oriented job functions.
  • Periodically conduct pesticide applications under supervision and fill out proper reports.

  • Proven ability to identify and solve other landscape problems, including turf, ornamental beds, trees, etc. May include insects, disease, and cultural problems

  • Ability to learn new landscape and irrigation concepts and techniques
  • Must be physically able to perform strenuous work, often under adverse weather conditions
     

Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, plus pushing, pulling and lifting. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises, gases and workspace restrictions. In addition, incumbents may be subjected to vibrations, chemicals and oils. Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. Frequent physical effort required.

Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Five (5) years irrigation experience, plus five (5) years of leadership experience in general landscaping.
 
Licenses and Certifications
Must hold a current Irrigator License through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Valid Texas Driver's License* and insurability with the college's insurance carrier.

*Individuals hired for this position may be required to drive a company vehicle. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run in conjunction with the background check during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually for the duration of employment at Collin College. Candidates who fail the original background/MVR report or subsequent MVR reports may not be hired and/or terminated based on the results of the report.
