Role Title: IRAP Assessor
Role Description:
We are seeking a certified IRAP Assessor with demonstrated Defence experience to support a sovereign capability project at Edinburgh. You will lead Architectural Reviews and provide strategic guidance on Secure-by-Design compliance, cyberworthiness, and system accreditation. This role is critical to the Commonwealth of Australia’s (CoA) assurance and governance activities across a high-impact Defence environment.
This role aligns with the Australian Signals Directorate’s (ASD) Infosec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP), which requires assessors to independently evaluate ICT systems against the Information Security Manual (ISM). IRAP Assessors do not certify systems but provide trusted advice to inform agency risk decisions.
Core responsibilities:
- Conduct IRAP assessments for classified or sensitive Defence systems
- Lead Secure-by-Design architectural reviews and risk assessments
- Provide SME advice to support CoA decision-making and initiatives
- Execute Assessment & Authorisation (A&A) activities and develop PoAMs
- Audit engineering designs and processes for cyberworthiness
- Engage with Defence stakeholders (RAAF, DSTG, BAE) and security bodies (ASD, ASIO, DCIAB)
- Develop Decision Briefs (DB), Technical Scoping Briefs (TSB), and Contract Change Proposals (CCP)
- Represent CoA interests in vendor, contractor, and customer engagements
Essential Requirements:
- IRAP Assessor certification (ASD-endorsed)
- Demonstrated experience with IRAP assessments for classified/sensitive Defence systems
- Strong knowledge of ISM, PSPF, DSPF, and cyberworthiness frameworks
- NV1 clearance (minimum), with ability to upgrade to NV2
- Australian Citizenship with AUSTEO and ITAR eligibility
- Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent technical qualification
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience with Cross Domain Solutions (CDS)
- Familiarity with JORN or Over-the-Horizon RADAR systems
- Broad technical experience across Windows, Linux, network infrastructure, and virtualisation
- Familiarity with DevSecOps, SecAAS, and cyber maturity models (e.g., C2M2)
- Professional memberships (AISA, Engineers Australia, AICD)
This role operates within a dynamic, high-tempo project environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in complex, fast-paced settings, preferably within Defence or similarly regulated sectors, and a willingness to adapt and contribute flexibly as required.
Required Security Clearance Level: NV1 with ability to upgrade to NV2
Location: Edinburgh
Weekly Hours: 80 hour flexible fortnight
