Role Title
Investment Accounting and Operations Co-op (Summer 2026)
Purpose of role
Reporting to the Manager, Investment Accounting and Operations, to support the Investment Accounting and Operations department.
Job Description
Key responsibilities/accountabilities
- Monitor collateral margin call exposure, perform collateral valuation reconciliation, and prepare FX Swap ICE Data Derivatives check daily.
- Perform weekly Net Asset Value (NAV) calculation for Foresters Life Insurance Company Segregated Funds. Record various types of cash flows in appropriate categories. Incorporate accruals/ expenses run from Foresters’ Accounting system and include premiums/ withdrawals from Insurance Policy Administration system to the NAV calculation.
- Review Monthly Custody Reconciliation prepared by Fund Administrator. Investigate and provide variance explanations and gather supporting documents on legitimate breaks (eg. factors or sinking funds). Communicate and resolve unreconcilable differences with Fund Administrator.
- Support invoice processing of investment-related expenses and prepare expense and accrual journal entries in Accounting system.
- Develop and implement a variance report using Fund Administrators’ Daily Valuation Report to further enhance the oversight process of the Segregated Funds holdings. This includes identifying any large percentage change (over 5%) of the holdings and providing explanation with the use of Bloomberg daily (eg. price and corporate action check).
- Create and maintain a custom monthly report to support year-to-date performance of all Segregated Funds to assist with audit process. Compare benchmarks to actual and net returns, provide commentary and reach out to Investment Managers if required.
- Enhance the collateral tracking / minimum transfer amounts tracker.
- Participate in process improvement projects and ad-hoc duties as assigned by Manager.
Key qualifications/competencies
- Enrolled in University Co-Op program, major in Finance/ Accounting.
- Understanding of the markets and the investment products available on various securities exchanges is a must.
- Experience in a life insurance/ financial institution investment back office is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy, organized and self-motivated to learn.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems.

Salary Range:
$18.00 - $23.00 per hour
The actual base salary for this position will depend on several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and education. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in a discretionary variable incentive plan, results are subject to both individual and company performance.
