Investigational Drugs Pharmacist

Location: La Crosse, WI
FTE: Full-Time, Salaried
Hours: Monday–Friday, clinic hours
Weekend & Holiday: No weekends or holidays
Pay: $124,238.40–$186,347.20 annually, based on years of experience

The Investigational Drugs Pharmacist will serve as the central connection point between Clinical Research, Pharmacy Services, and clinical teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient management of investigational products.
This role establishes a dedicated pharmacy expert to support all aspects of investigational drug management across the clinical research enterprise. The Investigational Drugs Pharmacist will provide specialized oversight for investigational therapies, support protocol and treatment plan build within the electronic health record, enhance system wide regulatory compliance, and streamline research medication workflows. By serving as the central pharmacy resource for investigators, coordinators, and research teams, this position strengthens safety, accuracy, and adherence to complex study protocols. 
 

What You Will Do

  • Develop the role of the investigational drug services pharmacist in the Gundersen region of Emplify Health

  • Serve as the designated liaison between Pharmacy Services, Clinical Research, investigators, study sponsors, and regulatory personnel.

  • Oversee procurement, receipt, storage, preparation, dispensing, and accountability for investigational medications in accordance with protocol and regulatory standards.

  • Support protocol and treatment plan build within the electronic health record (e.g., Epic Beacon) for investigational and non‑investigational therapies.

  • Ensure compliance with study protocols, FDA/ICH guidelines, sponsor requirements, IRB policies, and institutional procedures.

  • Enhance patient safety by developing and maintaining processes that minimize risk and prevent medication errors.

  • Dispense investigational medications directly to patients when appropriate, optimizing workflow efficiency.

  • Provide consultation and support to clinicians for investigational drug questions, handling, dosing, and therapeutic considerations.

  • Deliver education to Clinical Research staff, pharmacy team members, and learners on investigational drug regulations and best practices.

  • Partner with the Heme/Onc Clinical Pharmacist to offer cross‑coverage, collaborate on system builds, and ensure continuity of clinical pharmacy support.

  • Contribute to training and professional development for pharmacy residents and students, enhancing exposure to research-related pharmacy practice.

What You Will Need

Required

  • Wisconsin Pharmacist License

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy; Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.

  • One of the following:

3 years of relevant pharmacy experience (outpatient/retail, infusion, industry, research/investigational) OR Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Residency (PGY1)

  • Strong ability to ensure regulatory compliance, maintain detailed documentation, and manage complex workflows.

  • Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating across interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred

  • Experience in clinical research, investigational drug services, oncology, or advanced therapeutic protocols.

  • Specialized pharmacist certification (e.g., BCOP, BCPS, ASHP research skills certification, or other applicable specialty).

  • Experience with Epic Beacon, investigational drug handling, or research protocol management.
