Inventory Returns and Damage Reclamation Specialist

Department: Inventory Control
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Inventory Returns and Damage Reclamation Specialist is responsible for recovering inventory value and maintaining inventory accuracy by processing damaged cases, store returns, and misplaced product within the warehouse. Working as part of the Inventory Control team, this role focuses on reclaiming eligible product back into inventory, ensuring accurate system transactions, and properly sorting and staging unrecoverable inventory for resale or other disposition in accordance with established procedures. This position supports inventory integrity, space utilization, and financial accuracy through disciplined handling of inventory exceptions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report to work as scheduled and maintain reliable, punctual attendance.

  • Comply with all company policies, safety standards, and inventory control procedures.

  • Process damaged cases by breaking down and rebuilding eligible product into full or near-full cases and returning those cases to active inventory in accordance with established procedures.

  • Sort and stage damaged or unrecoverable inventory by commodity for resale or other approved disposition.

  • Process store-returned product and determine eligibility for return to inventory or reclamation.

  • Communicate with the credit request team whenever store-returned product is successfully returned to inventory.

  • Ensure all inventory recovery, returns, and reclamation activities are accurately recorded in the warehouse management system (WMS).

  • Maintain organized, clearly labeled areas for damaged, returned, and reclamation inventory.

  • Assist with lost case recovery by locating misplaced product and returning recovered cases to their original, correct inventory locations.

  • Support inventory control activities, including cycle counting, inventory investigations, and other inventory-related projects as assigned by inventory management.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with special inventory control projects and audits as needed.

  • Support warehouse operations and inventory control teams with inventory-related questions or tasks.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support inventory control operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to accurately inspect product condition and identify inventory eligible for recovery.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and standard operating procedures.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving quantities and weights.

  • Proficiency in recording and maintaining inventory data within computer-based systems.

  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with internal teams.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Prior experience in a warehouse, inventory control, returns processing, or reclamation environment preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform physical activities including bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, climbing, balancing, and repetitive motions.

  • Visual acuity requirements include close-range and distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision, with or without correction.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, including talking and hearing, in a warehouse environment.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in a warehouse environment.

  • The position involves regular exposure to noise, temperature variations, dust, moving equipment, and other typical warehouse conditions.

  • Appropriate safety equipment and procedures are required to be followed at all times.
