Work Schedule:

Monday thru Friday; 10:00am-2:00pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Fulfills laboratory assistant or specimen processor duties while supporting the work of technicians, technologists, and scientists in an area of testing in a medical diagnostic laboratory. Learns standard operating procedures for analyzing and storing specimens. Learns how to use laboratory equipment and software appropriate for assigned tasks. Prepares specimens for testing in laboratory departments through plating, aliquoting, distributing and sorting. Completes independent projects in assigned area of laboratory. Works under direct supervision and performs general duties as assigned by the designated department. Performs all paperwork, technical, and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens. Supports the lab by performing data entry, loading instruments, performing maintenance on all types of equipment, and gathering supplies for testing. Performs a variety of administrative duties for the designated department including clerical and customer service functions.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Enrolled in a secondary educational institution in a program including biology, chemistry, molecular biology or health sciences.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information to one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have the ability to perform all duties with accuracy and attention to detail

Computer Skills:

Ability to use Laboratory Information System in addition to various other software programs

Certificates and Licenses: No certifications needed
