The opportunity
The System and Automation team at the Swiss research center is looking for an intern student with expertise in numerical methods, scientific computing, or electrical engineering, to contribute to the development of computationally efficient analysis tools for power grids. You will interact with dynamic and multidisciplinary teams that will supervise and guide the project. If you have a strong technical background, motivation to develop innovative solutions, and you are goal-oriented, this is your opportunity to contribute to a stronger and more sustainable energy future. The duration of the internship is six months.
How you’ll make an impact
Perform literature search on state-of-the-art methods for solving sparse systems of linear equations
Develop and implement new approaches for fast parallelizable solution algorithms for power grid analysis problems
Benchmark the developed approaches against modern open-source and commercial tools
Drive execution of challenging tasks under stimulating supervision
Disseminate and report your results with the teams, write technical documentation, propose creative and efficient solutions towards industrial implementation
Your background
Enrolled in an MSc program in Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation Engineering or a related field
Background knowledge in at least one of the following: numerical methods, linear algebra, circuit theory
Experience in software development in Matlab and C/C++
Excellent communication skills, team player attitude, self starter mentality and creativity
Fluency in English, written and spoken
