Job Summary: The U.S. International Trade Commission is an independent Federal agency that provides the President and Congress with high-quality analysis and technical support on international trade, tariff and competitiveness issues; investigates and makes determinations in proceedings involving imports claimed to injure a domestic industry or violate U.S. intellectual property rights; and maintains the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule.

Major Duties:

  • As an International Trade Specialist (Recent Graduate), you will perform a variety of duties designed to encourage professional growth and development, through a variety of experiences, including the collection, compilation, analysis, and presentation of data related to international trade in products under investigation, and the U.S. industries affected by that trade. You will perform short and medium-term projects related to tasks assigned to higher-graded international trade analysts. Specifically, under the guidance of a supervisory investigator or an investigator, you will assist in collecting and/or assessment of information relevant to import injury proceedings, the resolution of which will, in most instances, have a significant impact on international trade in the subject merchandise, as well as the domestic industry producing those products. You will conduct qualitative and quantitative research and analysis utilizing a variety of sources and tools, including MS Excel. You will also assist in the analysis and presentation of data in such a way as to be of maximum use to the Commission. You will also participate in preparing preliminary interpretive reports and using computer applications in investigative research in support of import injury investigations. You may also conduct targeted research on international trade issues and topics, including summarizing findings through written products and perform other related duties as assigned.

You begin your 2-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility period in this case cannot exceed six (6) years from the date on which you completed your education. Basic Qualification Requirements: To qualify at the GS-7 level, you must meet one of the following requirements: 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or a Bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, in the upper one-third of your graduating class; or have a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or based on courses completed during your final 2 years; OR One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Work experience must show familiarity with international trade issues, ability to analyze large data sets, attention to detail, aptitude for customer service and problem solving, and ability to take direction and work as a team.
