If so, the International Students and Scholars Office(ISSO) at Iowa State University is currently seeking a dedicated International Student Advisor to provide vital guidance and resources, helping students thrive both academically and personally in their new environment. This position will be classified as an International Students and Scholars Advisor II.
What You'll Do:
Advise international students on academic, personal, and immigration matters.
Provide cultural adjustment counseling and connect students to campus resources.
Collaborate with departments (e.g., admissions, housing) to support student needs.
Assist students during emergencies or crises.
Support departmental projects and policy development.
Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) with the U.S. Department of State.
Maintain knowledge of F-1 and J-1 regulations.
Ensure accurate reporting and processing of immigration benefits.
Manage student immigration records and database updates.
Use data to identify and address immigration compliance issues.
Generate and analyze weekly, semester, and ad hoc reports.
May train and mentor advisors; teach transition courses.
Draft and manage communications (email, web, print).
Promote services through outreach and events.
Support program development and student engagement.
Participate in scholarship/emergency funding committees.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree.
Experience working in an international office.
Experience engaging with international populations.
Designated School Official(DSO), Responsible Officer(RO), Alternate Responsible Officer(ARO), or Principal Designated School Official(PDSO).
Demonstrated experience working in higher education, preferably within student affairs and/or regulatory compliance.

ISSO facilitates the seamless integration and success of international employees, scholars, and students by providing expert services, guidance on immigration compliance, and comprehensive support around unique international challenges.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident for access to SEVIS as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Department of State.
