šŸš€ About the Team

You will join the Office Transformation, Risk & Compliance, and more specifically the Risk & Internal Control squad.
This team is responsible for:
  • Designing and maintaining internal control frameworks (1st and 2nd line of defence).
  • Supporting risk management and operational risk reviews across the company.
  • Ensuring that our fast-growing business and innovative insurance products are delivered in a controlled, compliant and secure way.
The squad works closely with many stakeholders across Wakam: operations, product, tech, finance, legal, and our distribution partners (brokers, insurtechs, retailers).

šŸŽÆ Your Mission

As an Internal Control Intern for 6 months, you will contribute to strengthening Wakam’s risk management and internal control environment in a dynamic, high-growth Insurtech context.
Your main responsibilities will include:

Internal Control Framework

  • Formalise and update Level 1 and Level 2 controls (design, documentation, testing approach).
  • Support partner-related controls, helping to ensure that our distributors and other key partners meet Wakam’s standards and obligations.
  • Review and update existing control documentation, ensuring consistency, clarity and proper alignment with processes and risks.

Risk & Awareness

  • Contribute to internal awareness initiatives for 1st line managers and teams (training materials, presentations, guidance) to help them better understand their role in internal control.
  • Participate in the review of operational risks, contributing to the identification, assessment, and follow-up of key risk areas.

Optimisation & Innovation

  • Help identify opportunities to optimise and streamline internal control activities, including:
    • Simplification and standardisation of controls
    • Better use of data and automation
  • Contribute to exploring and implementing new tools, including the use of AI, to improve monitoring, documentation, and analysis of controls and risks.

🧠 What You Bring

  • You are currently pursuing a Master’s degree (Bac+4/5), ideally from a Business School, university program in audit, risk management, finance, or a related field.
  • You have basic knowledge of risk management and internal control concepts (3 lines of defence, control frameworks, operational risk, etc.).
  • You demonstrate strong analytical skills and critical thinking, and are comfortable structuring information and asking the right questions.
  • You have good interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to interact with various teams and stakeholders.
  • You are comfortable working in French and English in a professional context (written and spoken).

✨ Who You Are

You will thrive in this role if you:
  • Are curious and eager to understand how a fast-growing Insurtech operates, from products to processes to risks.
  • Are rigorous, organised and reliable, especially when dealing with documentation and controls.
  • Have a pragmatic mindset, able to balance theory (frameworks, methodology) with operational reality.
  • Enjoy working with and supporting operational teams, and are able to adapt your communication to different audiences.
  • Appreciate teamwork and like contributing to a constructive, positive and collaborative environment.

✨ šŸ¤– AI & Digital Mindset

Within the Office Transformation, Risk & Compliance, digitalisation and innovation are key. In this internship, you will:
  • Work with digital tools and collaborative platforms to document and track controls and risks.
  • Participate in optimisation initiatives, including exploring how AI or automation can support internal control (e.g. document analysis, anomaly detection, data-driven monitoring).
  • Be encouraged to look for efficient, tool-based ways to improve risk oversight, documentation quality, and interaction with operational teams.
You are naturally interested in how technology can enhance risk management and internal control, without compromising rigour and governance.

🌟 Why Join Wakam?

As an Internal Control Intern at Wakam, you will:
  • Gain a global qualitative view of risk management, including:
    • Internal control
    • Operational risk
    • Methodology and frameworks
    • Support to operational teams
  • Take an active, concrete role in the day-to-day work of the Risk & Internal Control squad (not just observation).
  • Discover how internal control and risk management work in a fast-growing Insurtech, in a stimulating and innovative environment.
  • Develop transferable skills in audit, risk, and internal control that will be highly valuable for future roles in consulting, industry, or financial services.
  • Join a mission-driven company where your work contributes to safer and more transparent insurance.

šŸ† Hiring Process

Our hiring process is designed to be selective, transparent, and respectful of your time:
  1. Initial interview with our Talent Acquisition Partner
To review your background, motivations, and interest in risk & internal control, and to introduce Wakam and the Office Transformation, Risk & Compliance.
  2. Interview with our Chief Risk Officer (your future manager)
To discuss your skills and mindset in more detail, present the missions and expectations, and assess the mutual fit.
A short additional discussion with a team member or senior stakeholder may be organised before finalising the offer.
