Overview

The Intern – Planning and Development assists the Planning and Development Department with various administrative, planning, zoning, permitting, and plan review tasks. This role offers experience in municipal government processes, supporting professional development in Neighborhood Planning, Zoning Engagement, Engineering, Urban Design, Preservation Planning, Administration, Arborist, or fulfilling the internship requirements of their academic program.

Essential Functions

1 Under the supervision of senior planning staff, provide assistance on Planning and Development Department projects and tasks that may include providing assistance the timely reviews of land use- and zoning-related applications, permit applications, design plans, city codes and ordinances, and state regulations for development that is consistent with adopted citywide and department policies.

2 Provide support to the planning division in the development of new neighborhood, corridor and area plans.

3 Assist with the preparation for community engagement meetings related to land use and zoning.

4 Provide research and analysis assistance for special planning, zoning or permitting projects as assigned.

5 Conduct research and provide summary analysis of issues related to the codes and ordinances utilized by the Planning and Development Department including the zoning code, subdivision code, and building code.

6 Assist with project file organization and records maintenance in accordance with city policies.

1 Some technical knowledge in project research and data analysis

2 Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

3 Ability to write clear, concise project summary reports.

4 Critical thinking and strong communication skills (graphic, written, and interpersonal)

5 Ability to take direction and follow-through on project requests.

Education

Currently enrolled in a college or University as a graduate or undergraduate student (Required)

Program Schedule:

  • Spring Semester: January – May (20 hours per week)

Salary Range
 

$19.83 - $20.94

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
