Functional Overview & Responsibilities

Our Global Statistical Sciences department includes over 200 people with advanced degrees in Statistics/Biostatistics. Our diverse population of global talent brings innovation to every aspect of our business - from Discovery Research to Clinical Development to Manufacturing and Real-world Evidence. We are playing a leading role in transforming the way the company develops medicines using state-of-the-art methods in adaptive designs, Bayesian statistics, causal inference, genetic/biomarker analysis, machine learning and more!

As an intern in our Global Statistical Sciences department, you will have an opportunity to gain technical expertise and contribute to cutting edge research. You will understand the patient and business needs and then design, execute, and analyze clinical and other studies. Your creativity and leadership are essential elements of bringing better solutions in our drug discovery and development. Purpose

The Intern – PhD Statistician will support the Clinical Statistics team on a project intended to bring innovation to clinical trial design or answer questions arising from clinical trial data. The successful individual will work with clinical research associates/clinical data associates, statistical analysts and project statisticians.

Responsibilities

The job tasks listed below outline the scope of the position. The application of these tasks may vary, based upon current business needs.

  • Collaborate primarily with the statistical team on problem solving and analytics in Clinical Trial or Real-World Evidence setting (e.g., Modelling and simulations for method selection to address a specific scientific question; Complex data visualizations; Network meta-analyses).
  • Maintain proficiency with respect to statistical programming and statistical methodology and in applying new and varied methods. Perform work in full compliance with assigned curriculum(s) and be responsible for following applicable corporate, medical, local, and departmental policies, procedures, processes and training.
  • Challenge yourself and others to be a life-long learner and always look for better ways to deliver.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program specializing in Statistics, Biostatistics or related field (at least close to completing the second year)

Additional Preferences

  • Proficiency in a statistical programming language and systems/software e.g., R and SAS
  • Interpersonal/teamwork skills for effective interactions
  • Self-management skills with a focus on results for timely and accurate completion of competing deliverables
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and attention to detail

  • All interns will be considered for full-time positions based on their internship performance,

  • Interns will receive competitive compensation and benefits.
  • This is a hybrid role with minimum office attendance required. Interns are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from work.
