The New York Post is looking for a dynamic, motivated News Intern (24 hrs/week) to join our legendary team this spring. You’ll be right at the heart of the action, contributing to the news coverage that millions rely on every day. This is your chance to work with an iconic media brand and gain hands-on experience covering breaking news that shapes the city, from government to crime to courts, while contributing to the headlines our readers turn to every day. Whether you’re on-site at City Hall, in police bureaus, or at courthouses, you’ll gain invaluable experience in reporting, writing, and news gathering, all while working alongside seasoned journalists in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This internship offers the unique opportunity to learn from the best and develop your skills as a journalist, with your work contributing directly to the New York Post’s renowned coverage. Participants are expected to work part time hours and adhere to our on-site work schedule. Open to current juniors and seniors pursuing a BA, MA students, and recent graduates who completed their degree within the past year What You’ll Do: ● Cover breaking news stories across a variety of beats, including government, crime, and courts, ensuring our readers get the latest updates. ● Spend time on-site at City Hall, police bureaus, and courthouses, gathering firsthand information and witnessing the news as it unfolds. ● Shadow experienced reporters to understand the ins and outs of the news-gathering process and gain invaluable mentorship. ● Assist in developing story ideas and pitches that resonate with our audience, ensuring we stay ahead of the curve. ● Research, verify, and fact-check information to support ongoing stories and investigations, ensuring accuracy and credibility. ● Write and contribute to breaking news stories under the guidance of editors and reporters, meeting the high standards of the New York Post. ● Stay informed on current events, contributing fresh insights and input on trending topics that are driving conversations across the city. What We’re Looking For: ● A keen interest in hard news and a natural ability to spot compelling stories that resonate with our audience. ● Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom. ● A passion for New York City and a solid understanding of its landscape, from government to local communities. ● A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn from seasoned journalists, with a desire to get out in the field and experience news firsthand. ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear, concise, and engaging news stories. ● Familiarity with entertainment and celebrity culture is a plus, but the focus is on hard news coverage. ● Bilingual in Spanish and/or access to a personal vehicle is a plus.
