Who We Are Looking For

The GIS Development Intern will be part of the Clearway Development Team and will report to the GIS Senior Manager. The Development Team is responsible for the development and execution into construction of Clearway Energy Group’s 10 GW solar, wind, and storage project pipeline. The team works closely with the Origination, Engineering, Project Finance and Construction teams across the full project lifecycle from origination to commissioning and all associated activities required to bring projects to successful commercial operation. 

This position is part of the 10-week Summer Internship Program at Clearway Energy Group beginning on June 1, 2026. 

We are looking for current juniors or rising seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree in GIS, Engineering, Environmental Science, Computer Science or related field. 

Throughout this summer internship program, you’ll get exposure to real projects and challenges while gaining first-hand professional experience. At Clearway, you’ll gain access to an innovative and fast-paced work environment. You’ll also participate in networking and learning events with your fellow intern cohort.

This is a hybrid role that will be based in the Denver Office. Our hybrid policy is that employees are in-office on Tuesdays & Thursdays.

What You'll Be Doing

The GIS Development Intern primary responsibilities will include: 

 Support in preparing data for import into our land management software. 

  • Support in digitizing lease boundaries using PLSS land descriptions. 
  • Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from internal teams and determine how best to present this information using GIS software. 
  • Develop maps in ArcGIS Desktop for use in ArcGIS Online and printed formats. 
  • Learn about the development milestones of complex large-scale renewable energy projects from initial project proposal and siting, through to permitting, design, interconnection, approval, contracting, financing, and handover to construction.   
  • Support the development of alternative project development approaches that reduce exposure to permitting risks, optimize development schedules or create additional project value.   
  • Support development of user interface for use by permitting and environmental teams in ArcGIS Online. 

 The GIS Development Intern will be assigned to an individual project and will present results to the team and leadership at the end of the internship on August 4th. 

What You'll Bring

Core Knowledge and Skills 

  • Experience in creating maps using ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro). 
  • Exposure to or interest in learning the ArcGIS Online web platform. 
  • Interest and fundamental knowledge of the renewable energy industry and US electricity infrastructure. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Microsoft Excel.  
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment that emphasizes attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and working together to achieve company-wide objectives. 
  • Intellectual curiosity and an interest in renewable energy. You’re here because you believe in and want to help create a clean energy future. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills. You’re willing to ask lots of questions, listen to your colleagues, and contribute your ideas.

  • Ability to work independently, multitask and take ownership over projects and assignments. You’re comfortable taking initiative, asking questions, and speaking up.

What Would Be Nice

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Exposure to the energy industry, including the project development lifecycle.  
  • Exposure to project schedules and project budgets. 
  • Knowledge of various sources of publicly-available spatial data that may contribute to analyzing prospective renewable sites. 
  • Some knowledge of governmental mandates, environmental regulations or customer/market signals that impact or facilitate new development of renewable projects in major markets (CAISO, WECC, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE).

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is not eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.

$22$26 USD
