Position Overview

AspenTech is seeking Business Development Interns to join our Business Development organization in Houston. This internship offers hands-on exposure to how a highly performing team generates net-new pipeline through structured outbound prospecting, data-driven research, and early-stage customer engagement.

As a Business Development Intern, you will participate in meaningful, project-based work that allows you to experience each step of the outbound lead management and prospecting lifecycle. You will work closely with experienced BDRs and sales professionals to support account research, data quality, and outbound readiness, gaining insight into how strategic outreach fuels business growth.

Your Impact

Key Responsibilities

  • Target account & market research — Analyze market segments and industry trends within GI priority industries, identify top companies, and build target account lists aligned to sales priorities.
  • Account mapping — Research and build account plans for target companies, including key contacts, company structure, locations, and other relevant account insights, to help BDRs better understand accounts and personalize outreach.
  • Data analysis & reporting — Analyze target account data to surface whitespace, prioritization tiers, and coverage gaps; summarize findings into clear recommendations for BDR leadership.
  • BDR partnership & campaign support — Shadow BDRs, observe outbound workflows, and contribute account intelligence to active GI campaigns on cadence with BDR outreach cycles.
  • Gain hands-on experience using core BD technologies, including Salesforce (SFDC), Outreach, ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator.

What You'll Need

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Engineering (including Chemical), or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CRM tools is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn in a team-oriented environment.

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with industrial, energy, or other asset-intensive industries such as manufacturing, chemicals, or mining.

Duration

Summer 2026 (10–12 weeks, with potential for extension based on performance).
