 The Opportunity

This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life.   Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics.  As an Intermediate Technician for the Test Lab team, you'll have the chance to support Production and Non-Standard testing operations using blood and plasma-based fluids. You will plan and organize work and initiate/maintain work schedule. You will also solve a wide range of problems requiring some interpretation of defined procedures and practices. You will be responsible for selecting methods and practices with guidance from the Senior Tech, Team Leader and Supervisor to obtain robust, thorough, and practical solutions. Maintenance of all Test lab reference instruments will be required.

 What You’ll Do

  • Perform technical work with, or without established procedures.  Work requires judgment, initiative, creativity, and leadership in troubleshooting, suggesting alternatives and making recommendations.

  • Work with occasional supervision which may vary with the context/nature of the work.  Latitude exists to select appropriate work methods without guidance from supervisor.

  • Maintain lab reference instruments daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly; DxC700, ABL, Hemochrons, Tonometers, centrifuges, timers, and pipettes.

  • Update EquipmentTrak software.

  • Troubleshoot instruments when required and interact with external instrument service providers.

  • Prepare Quality Control charts for instruments daily; check for trends and investigate any out-of-range errors.

  • Perform Global Software Testing; VST experiments before each software release for all product types and Data integrity check / Data gather for all completed coefficients studies.

  • Verify spike solutions and Spike Solution Verification Log.

  • Support Lead Hand: planning and testing non-production studies. Acting as back-up when required.

  • Provide support for customer related investigations (PQA).

  • Execute interference and coefficient testing for all product types.

  • Provide clarification and direction when required, train operators regarding proper process procedures.

  • Test Proficiency Survey studies: order cartridges, review submit the survey’s results.

  • Review and update lab documentation, create new documents when needed.

  • Ensure the lab is left in good order and appropriate status information is communicated to counterparts on other shifts.

  • Understand and comply with Quality and EH&S policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Safeguards the environment and facilitate a safe and healthy workplace culture.

  • Consistently apply Quality Systems requirements and procedures.

  • Other miscellaneous duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • College Diploma in a related discipline. Undergraduate university degree in science is preferred.

  • One to three years relevant work experience.

  • Laboratory experience is an asset.

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize own daily work to meet established schedule and to multi-task.

  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.

  • Ability to form and develop interpersonal, professional relationship; display socially and professionally appropriate behavior.

  • Ability to work independently and in groups.

  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge, understanding or skills and willingness to learn.

  • Proficient with computers and standard statistical & office software.

  • Familiarity with GLP, GMP, and LEAN Six Sigma manufacturing principles is an asset.

Shift: Monday to Thursday Nights working from 6:30 pm to 5:00 am.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $54,750.00 to $80,300.00 CAD. The salary range provided applies to Canada only and does not apply to any other locations outside of Canada.
