Intermediate Accountant

Vancouver, BC Full time
You are an Accountant that is enrolled in the CPA program (or other equivalent education) and experienced in a variety accounting month-end duties including inventory and fixed asset accounting, producing monthly management reporting and analysis, and preparing budgets and forecasts.

In this role, you will be focused on completing month end accounting entries and back-up schedules, but also be involved in preparation of forecast information, variance analysis and interaction with key operations personnel.

You will be supporting Summit Aviation, which includes both Summit Air and Summit Helicopters. The fixed‑wing operations are based in Yellowknife, NT, while the rotary‑wing operations are primarily based in Kamloops, BC with with additional bases across Canada.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Participating in month end preparation of schedules, back-up calculations and journal entries

  • Reviewing and proposing month end accruals

  • Preparing variance reports for monthly reporting against budget

  • Scheduling and attending monthly meetings with Operations to discuss monthly results and asset values

  • Preparing and administering monthly sales tax filings

  • Preparing monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations

  • Assist with reviewing expenditures for passthrough charging to clients

  • Preparing supporting schedules for financial statements

  • Take on special projects and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ full cycle accounting experience

  • Enrolled in the CPA program or equivalent

  • Demonstrated accounting experience with well-rounded knowledge of standard accounting concepts and practices

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, with expert knowledge of Excel

  • Advanced computer skills using accounting software; familiarity with JD Edwards or similar ERP system would be an asset

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interfacing with operations personnel, with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently, organize and manage multiple tasks, and set priorities

  • Commitment to excellent customer service

Work Conditions:

  • Hybrid, working from office once or twice a week.
