The Opportunity

The Interior Design Internship offers the opportunity to work closely under the guidance of a Senior Interior Designer, gaining hands‑on experience in interior design and project development. This internship is ideal for students in the early stages of their architectural or interior design studies who want to develop practical skills in conceptual design, space planning, schematic design, and technical drawing.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the team in the preparation of compelling and informative proposals and presentation materials.
  • Accompanying senior colleagues to client meetings, observing and supporting effective client engagement and presentation techniques.
  • With guidance, contributing to space‑planning exercises that reflect programme requirements, functional needs, and design considerations, while ensuring compliance with applicable building codes.
  • Participating in the development of 2D and 3D design concepts, with a focus on producing high‑quality renderings under supervision.
  • Researching and recommending suitable finishes and furnishings that meet project functional, aesthetic, environmental, and budgetary requirements, and presenting these selections to the team.
  • Assisting in the preparation of documentation related to the selection, specification, procurement, and installation of furnishings and equipment, including the development of layout drawings and schedules.
  • Supporting the production of Design Development (DD) and Contract Documents—such as plans, elevations, sections, and schedules—using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Developing an understanding of technical considerations, including planning requirements, life‑safety standards, building codes, materials, finishes, specifications, and contract administration procedures.
  • Assisting in the preparation of permit and tender application packages as required.
  • Performing additional tasks as needed to support project teams and studio operations.

Education & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in the 3rd accredited Bachelor’s programme in Interior Design; enrolment in a CIDA‑accredited programme is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Revit.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD (considered an asset).
  • Familiarity with Rhino, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, or comparable modelling and visualisation tools (preferred). Ability to hand‑sketch and effectively communicate design ideas through visual media.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Genuine interest in sustainable, innovative, and forward‑thinking design practices.
