The Insurance Manager is responsible for overseeing the insurance compliance and administration processes within Berkadia’s commercial loan portfolio. This role supervises a team within the insurance department dedicated to insurance servicing, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and investor guidelines. The Insurance Manager leads training efforts, maintains procedural documentation, and coordinates the timely processing of insurance-related tasks. Final decision-making authority on insurance matters is deferred to the VP, Insurance; the Insurance Manager provides recommendations, escalates issues, and ensures thorough documentation for VP review.

  • Conduct oneself in accordance with the Berkadia Way principles, always demonstrating high integrity.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the insurance compliance and administration process for the commercial servicing portfolio.
  • Supervise a team within the insurance department, assigning workload, monitoring productivity, providing coaching, and performing regular performance reviews.
  • Ensure team activities are compliant with all relevant company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory standards related to insurance.
  • Oversee tracking, verification, renewal, and reporting of insurance coverage to ensure property compliance.
  • Identify and investigate insurance exceptions, deficiencies, and coverage lapses; recommend solutions and escalate significant or complex issues to the VP, Insurance for review and final decision.
  • Lead regular team meetings, share updates on policy changes and regulatory requirements, and drive process improvement.
  • Develop, maintain, and deploy training materials and departmental procedures, partnering with the Servicing Compliance team and management.
  • Communicate with borrowers, investors, insurance brokers, and internal stakeholders to support issue resolution, always deferring major decisions to the VP, Insurance.
  • Present recommendations, documentation, and escalations to the VP, Insurance for decision and approval as necessary.
  • Perform operational duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned by Management.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide day-to-day guidance for a team within the insurance department.
  • Assign daily tasks, oversee work quality, and manage team workloads.
  • Conduct regular coaching, training, and performance management for direct reports.
  • Serve as the primary operational escalation point for insurance-related questions, deferring final resolution to the VP, Insurance when necessary.
  • Ensure all escalations, recommendations, and supporting documentation are presented to the VP, Insurance for decision-making.
  • Maintain operational compliance with internal procedures and investor/regulatory guidelines.

  • Proven team leadership, supervision, and coaching experience, ideally within insurance servicing or administration.
  • High competence in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to use industry-specific applications for insurance management.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask with competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive approach to insurance process oversight.
  • Working knowledge of commercial real estate insurance requirements, servicing agreements, and related documentation.
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to interact across all levels and with external partners.
  • Experience overseeing insurance operations in a commercial mortgage servicing, banking, or insurance context; experience with process oversight and team management preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED
