This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas, with primary teaching responsibilities delivered in person. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, or as teaching and service responsibilities require. May be assigned to teach at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities, as determined by the institution based on operational needs. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
The successful candidate will be academically qualified to teach undergraduate courses with a primary focus on Small Business Entrepreneurship, including Small Business Management, New Venture Creation, Entrepreneurial Strategy, Small Business Finance, Small Business Marketing, Exit/Harvest, and related applied entrepreneurship courses. These courses are central to the Small Business Entrepreneurship degree and emphasize experiential, practice-based learning. Other undergraduate courses may be assigned based on background, experience, and departmental need.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning, student engagement, and community-connected education. The role includes mentoring students, supporting applied projects with external partners, and contributing to the growth and visibility of the Entrepreneurship program. The candidate will also participate in service activities that support the department, college, and university mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
100% Teaching and Service
Plan, prepare, and deliver undergraduate courses in Small Business Entrepreneurship.
Develop course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with experiential and applied learning objectives.
Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate learning outcomes.
Engage students in hands-on, project-based learning experiences, including work with local businesses and entrepreneurial ventures.
Foster entrepreneurial thinking, opportunity recognition, and problem-solving skills.
Provide mentorship and academic support to students pursuing entrepreneurial and small business pathways.
Incorporate innovative teaching approaches, including experiential, case-based, and community-engaged learning.
Adhere to university policies and AACSB accreditation standards.
Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain instructional effectiveness and relevance.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to support program development and community engagement initiatives.
Contribute to service activities including committees, student recruitment, outreach, and mentorship of adjunct faculty.
Minimum Requirements
Earned undergraduate degree in business from an AACSB-accredited institution and a master’s degree in entrepreneurship, management, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university.
Minimum of 5 years of entrepreneurial experience, including founding, managing, or growing a small business or venture.
Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of entrepreneurship and small business management; ability to translate real-world entrepreneurial experience into effective teaching; skill in facilitating experiential and applied learning environments; strong interpersonal and communication skills; and the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, and community stakeholders in a professional and collaborative manner.
