Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Laboratory Sciences in the College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) seeks applicants for a full-time, 12-month faculty position, located in Little Rock, Arkansas. We are searching for a team-oriented faculty member to join the successful, dynamic and student-oriented medical laboratory sciences program. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Tenure or non-tenure track is available, depending on academic qualifications. Position reports to the medical laboratory sciences program director.

The program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The program offers a full- or part-time day program with one cohort of up to 30 students beginning each fall semester. The full-time track requires 17 months to complete. The part-time track allows students a maximum of five semesters to complete the program. The program also offers an MLT-to-MLS distance track that is designed for medical laboratory technicians (MLTs). Upon completion of the full-time, part-time, or MLT-to-MLS track, a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences is awarded.

UAMS is Arkansas’ only academic health center with seven institutes including the Reynolds Institute on Aging, Stephens Spine Institute, Jones Eye Institute, Myeloma Institute for Research & Therapy, Psychiatric Research Institute, Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and Translational Research Institute. The university has five colleges including Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions (CHP) as well as a Graduate School of biomedical sciences. The College of Health Professions which houses the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program also has 15 other programs with the potential for innovative interprofessional opportunities.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, education, health-related field, management, or equivalent from an accredited institution. (Candidates possessing a bachelor’s degree will be expected to attain a master’s degree in education or a health-related discipline.)

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience performing high-complexity testing as a generalist with experience in all areas of the lab.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, ability to identify and solve problems.

  • Ability to travel frequently to clinical sites and recruitment events to meet with potential students and current MLS students.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in science, education, or a health-related field from an accredited institution.

  • Teaching experience (online, classroom, and/or clinical).

  • Experience in managing teams or programs.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the organization, administration, planning, development, and continuous review of clinical experiences for medical laboratory sciences students

  • Design and teach academic courses within area(s) of expertise, serving as backup didactic faculty for multiple on-campus program areas

  • Provide faculty support for the online program in collaboration with the Program and Assistant Program Directors

  • Serve as a recruiting liaison for the College of Health Professions, focusing on on-campus recruitment and assisting with online recruitment as needed

  • Engage in research and scholarly activities appropriate to faculty rank and track

  • Contribute to university, college, and departmental service consistent with faculty expectations

  • Participate in program and curriculum assessment, planning, and implementation activities

  • Support NAACLS accreditation processes, including self-study, review, and site visits

  • Maintain current MLS certification and professional development

  • Collaborate with colleagues by co-teaching or providing instructional support as assigned by the Program Director.
