Job Summary: About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Major Duties:

  • Serve as an Instructor, Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Human Performance Laboratory Manager playing a key role as a founding contributor to development and launch of a new performance Institute.
  • Oversees daily operations, technical infrastructure, and regulatory compliance of the Human Performance Institute (HPI).
  • Ensures high-quality data collection, safe laboratory operations, and integration of assessment, performance services, and research.
  • Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment and develops/enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Designs and implements evidence-based training programs to enhance athletic and military performance and reduce injury risk and support long-term development.
  • Assesses physical readiness, teaches proper movement/lifting techniques, monitors training loads/recovery, and coordinate with other performance and medical staff.
  • Design comprehensive training schedules, oversee the daily management of facilities and equipment, and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and industry best practices.
  • Teaches across the physical education program including activity-based courses, fitness education, and Kinesiology major.
  • Primarily teaching responsibility is within the Fundamentals of Personal Fitness course, which aligns with the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) framework.
  • Provides physical readiness training instruction during Cadet Summer Training.
  • Contributes to faculty professional development and serves on directorates/committees assisting in administrative duties to support the department’s mission.

Qualifications: Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) In Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology or a closely related field. 2) Demonstrated ability to design and implement evidence-based training programs to optimize athletic and military performance. 3) Collegiate teaching experience with ability to deliver a broad range of undergraduate coursework in physical education, kinesiology, or related areas. 4) Demonstrated ability to manage human performance laboratory operations, including the precision calibration of technical equipment and the development of a Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and oversight mechanisms. 5) Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a strength and conditioning or performance setting.
