Job Description:

Work Location: Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, Pollock LA

Position Description: This individual will serve as lead instructor who teaches archery and outdoor skills subject matter in a track format to an audience of up to 25-50 youth at a time, grades 4th – 6th, in a camp setting. This person will be responsible for meeting with two other assigned camp staff before and after track time each day. The instructor will join other summer staff in providing safe supervision of youth while at camp and will support 4-H professionals, volunteers and members in conducting meaningful educational experiences to help develop social skills. Works under the direct supervision of the 4-H Program Coordinator to implement all policies and procedures of the LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana 4-H Youth Development program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain the archery equipment including bows, arrows, strings, and targets.
  • Prepare detailed lesson plans for at least three 50 min rotations including rainy day class time instruction in archery and outdoor skills.
  • Ensure the security of the archery equipment and range when not in use.
  • Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Clean archery range daily, keeping it free of hazards and debris.
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.

 Qualification Requirements:

  • Prefer applicant to have a bachelor’s degree in education, social or behavioral sciences, or field related to outdoor skills.
  • Must have a 4-H Shooting Sports Archery Instructor Level 1 Certification.
  • Must complete the employee background screening process and be approved by the LSU AgCenter Human Resource Management Unit.
  • The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills and work efficiently with youth in group situations.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid. The camp will provide training.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Training and experience in teaching archery to youth.
  • Desire and ability to work with youth outdoors in varied conditions.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (various ages and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to youth.
  • Ability to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply proper behavior management techniques.

Salary and Benefits: $3,000.00 for the nine-week period.

Date Available: Camp session is May 25-July 30, 2026. Work hours are Tuesday & Wednesday each week from 7:30 am-12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm-5:30 pm plus prep and clean-up time. Required training period is May 14-22, 2026. Camp will not be in session the week of June 22–25, 2026. LOST Camp takes place July 30-August 2, 2026.
