Job Summary:

Reporting to the Web and Mobile Application Design and Development Coordinator, this position provides classroom instructional and technical support, within multiple PC and Macintosh computer labs, to faculty and students according to work performance standards set by the College.


Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides assistance to students during class and lab time by advising them on software; hardware; and design in print, multimedia, video, and web publishing. The primary department will be WMDD but the IA will be assisting other CADV departments. Supervises students in open labs.

  • Works closely with instructors in the Creative Arts Division to ensure that appropriate software is installed on computers within the labs.

  • Provides technical and instructional support to faculty and students with the use of hardware such as Macintosh and Windows computers, flatbed scanners, film and slide scanners, video cameras and recorders, digital cameras, color printers, Wacom graphics tablets, and more. Demonstrates new equipment and software to students and faculty.

  • Provides technical and instructional support to faculty and students with the use of software such as that used for publishing coding for web and mobile app (typically Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, text editors, compilers, libraries and plug-ins), new Operating Systems and more.

  • Researches and tests new or proposed equipment and/or software for compatibility with current lab software template and hardware. Advises Creative Arts division on related issues.

  • Provides instructional support to faculty and students on markup or programming languages.

  • Coordinates and monitors the use of the Mac labs as outlined in the Division Chair schedule.

  • Ensures that peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, drives, LCD projector, cameras, etc are in serviceable condition. If unable to fix problems, reports issues to Helpdesk.

  • Participates in WMDD department meetings and forums by providing reports on items such as the state of the lab, usage patterns and related developments. Consults with instructors, various Department heads, Division Chairs, software and hardware companies and resellers, and campus security. Participates in both college and outside mailing lists.

  • Provides administrative support to WMDD Coordinator.

  • Provides marking support to the WMDD Coordinator and instructors, as required.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications Required:


Education

  • Two (2) year diploma in relevant creative arts technology field such as graphic design, web development, or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Four (4) years of recent related experience working with graphics software, web design and development software.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Advanced knowledge of internet and multimedia design, and/or coding, and programming software.

  • Advanced knowledge in web and mobile applications (e.g. Adobe Suite, text editors, compilers, libraries and plug-ins, etc).

  • Advanced skills and thorough knowledge of computer systems (MAC and PCs) and peripherals (e.g. digital cameras, printers, scanners, etc).

  • Instructional support experience preferred.

  • Experience marking assignments, quizzes or exams, an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn techniques & software of rapidly changing industry.

  • Demonstrated teaching, tutoring, or coaching ability.

  • Demonstrated ability to code full-stack web and mobile applications.

  • Proven written and verbal communications skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work.

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and strong visual skills, with understanding of layout, typography, and visual hierarchy

Working Hours: 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday (possible Saturday shifts)
