Job Summary
This level of Inspector is responsible for investigation and enforcement in one or more of the functional areas: city codes, construction, drainage, environmental, housing, industrial waste, park construction, plumbing, roofing, street & sewer, transportation regulation, and water/wastewater construction. Inspects a broad range of more complex projects. Seeks advice on only the more complex/difficult technical problems from a supervisor. The Inspector II works independently in the field and is responsible for making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment, and familiarity with a broad variety of problems. May advise/assist Inspectors.
Job Description
Overview
The Inspector - Pavement Markings is responsible for performing inspection and evaluation work for public works projects involving streets, lights, rights-of-ways, and other transportation operations. Ensures compliance with various regulations, standards, and procedures.
Essential Functions
1 Conducts inspections, evaluates construction work, and identifies areas of non-compliance regarding construction work for transportation systems within the City; determines compliance with safety, structural, zoning, plans, or applicable codes and ordinances.
2 Investigates, researches, and reports on alleged violations of federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations; ensures streets, traffic, and transportation projects are following protocols, procedures, and appropriate contractual standards; requires corrections be made when deficiencies are discovered and assists in determining methods to achieve conformance.
3 Drafts, creates, and issues notices of violation and conducts follow-up inspections to ensure corrections are made; provides information to customers regarding codes and other regulatory requirements.
4 Develops reports on inspections and related findings to deliver to supervisors and managers; provides data on current projects and compliant standards.
5 Performs all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of city, state, or federal codes, ordinances, rules, regulations and standards in transportation, streets, and related.
2 Knowledge of performing inspections and determining non-compliant issues.
3 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
4 Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
5 Ability to produce written documents/reports with clearly organized thoughts.
6 Ability to keep accurate records; comprehend and make inferences from written material.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience inspecting the design/construction/maintenance in any of the following areas:
streets, storm drainage systems
water/sewer mains, water/wastewater facilities
bridge improvements projects
EQUIVALENCIES
Associates degree or higher in a construction management or engineering field will qualify.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Subject to fieldwork conditions.
