Available Shift: 1st Shift - Monday-Thursday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm

Compensation: $26+ per hour

A Brief Summary of This Position

The primary responsibility of the Inside Shipping Lead is to accurately pick, count, and pack parts for shipment to our customers. Responsibilities include operating a variety of material handling and packaging equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The Inside Shipping Lead is also expected to maintain appropriate housekeeping and safety standards.

This position leads by example, serving as a key contributor to the Inside Shipping team's success by guiding and mentoring a team inside shipping staff. This position takes on significant responsibility for daily departmental operations while assisting with task assignments and fostering the development of team members. This role is instrumental in driving the department's progression and achieving its goals.

Essential Functions

  • Responds in a positive fashion to the direction of a shift supervisor, participating in departmental/cell team functions.
  • Accurately picks, counts and packs parts for shipment.
  • Operates the following equipment in a safe and efficient manner: forklift, order picker, hand and air driven banding and crimping tools, lift tables, small hand tools, vacu-lifts, weigh scales, air driven staple/nail guns, hand-held barcode scanners, computers, storage carousels, skin wrap machine, and/or cable wrapping machines.
  • Understand documents pertaining to packing and shipping of irrigation products.
  • Demonstrates computer proficiency with QAD.
  • Maintains housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Contributes to a positive safety culture.
  • Demonstrates effective and proper communication skills, open to change, and encourages change with the team.
  • Responsible for safety, productivity, quality, and personal behavior driving improvement results for inside shipping.
  • Recognize major parts to sight (most crate line and high volume parts).
  • Adheres to departmental established goals for on-time delivery.
  • Actively problem-solves and presents solutions.
  • Lead others by example.
  • Provides feedback to others to improve performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, read, write, and count accurately.
  • A working knowledge of computer to include using e-mail, TEAMS, QAD, spreadsheets.
  • The ability to work with wood and small hand tools such as tape measures, scales, banders, and air-driven staplers.
  • The ability to stand, bend, push, pull, climb, lift and walk repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • The ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • The ability to operate forklifts or weigh counting scales.
  • Satisfactory safety record and the awareness of others safety as well as their own.
  • Material handling and inventory experience.
  • Acceptable work history and attendance record.

Educational Background

  • Must be able to read, write, and understand plainly written documents in English such as order pick lists, move tags, part orders, and rejected tags as well as understand and follow verbal/written instructions.
  • Do simple math (add, subtract, divide and multiply both whole numbers and fractions).
  • Possess legible penmanship.
  • Use a calculator.
  • Use a computer.
  • Use label printers.
  • Implement proper leadership and communication skills.

Decision Making

Employee makes routine decisions. Incumbent will need to follow both verbal and written instructions. Most of this job is covered by standard practices. Use of good common sense and quality control procedures are essential aspects of completing this job in a successful manner. The employee should be able to recognize major errors in shipping and parts orders paperwork, recognize weight discrepancies, misidentified parts etc. and bring them to the attention of appropriate personnel.

Physical Effort

Physical effort consists of continuous standing, bending, climbing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting. The pushing, pulling and lifting will range from 0-50 lbs. depending on job assignment. Although some items weigh more the employee should never have to lift more than 50 lbs. Must be able to withstand this effort for the duration of designated shift. Must work at a pace to enable the cell/department to attain set and agreed upon goals.

Working Conditions

95% of the work is done outside - the remainder is inside. Outside work exposes the employee to the full spectrum of the weather from summer to winter. The shipping building is a heated insulated structure. Inside the building in the winter there are some cool spots but normally temperature is comfortable. In the summertime, it can get very warm and muggy inside the building with the heat index getting above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for short periods of time. Most loading operations are exposed to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments.
