Job Description:

The Behavioral Health Manager will oversee the delivery of behavioral health services within the OU healthcare system. The role involves managing a team of behavioral health professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to support patients’ mental health and well-being. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Supervises behavioral health team members by providing performance evaluations, training, guidance, and support for patient care. Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures. 

  • Implements and aids in developing programs and initiatives to enhance the quality of behavioral health services. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and makes necessary adjustments. Plans, implements, and evaluates the professional development of new staff members and provides ongoing support.

  • Ensures that standard operating procedures for clinic schedules, handling referrals, and other applicable processes are followed and meet department expectations.

  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and other regulatory bodies. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of applicable healthcare policies and integrates them into behavioral health processes. 

  • Provides crisis intervention services as needed and is available for timely case consultations. Supports behavioral health professionals in managing complex cases and high-risk situations.

  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities. Prepares reports and maintains records in accordance with regulatory requirements. Supervises the peer review process and ensures clinicians participate in peer review audits as outlined in standard operating procedures. 

  • Works closely with clinic managers and other departments such as nursing, psychiatry, case management, Pediatric Behavioral Health Services, and the Child Study Center, to provide integrated care.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations and resources. Provides resource education to clinicians, clinic managers, and other departments. Advocates for patients and connects them with appropriate services and support.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences and engages in conversations to maintain standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree from accredited institution in social work, counseling, or psychology.
     

Experience Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in social work, psychology or counseling.

  • 3 -5 years progressive leadership experience in behavioral health. 

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Independent licensure such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT) from Oklahoma state board. Must be able to provide clinical supervision per Oklahoma licensing board requirements.             

  • Must be OU Health credentialed within 45 days of hire (Ambulatory Manager Position).                  

  • Organizational de-escalation training to be completed within 45 days of hire.                                                  

  • Current BLS (American Heart Association) certification.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of individual and group psychotherapy, social and psychosocial casework, social and welfare resources available in the community and organization, and of current social and economic conditions, trends, and problems.

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws particularly related to patient confidentiality.

  • Knowledge of care management fundamentals and the technical/procedural aspects of care management.  

  • Ability to resolve issues, applying judgement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to determine a course of action.

  • Ability to exercise discretion when making decisions and seek management advice to determine proper course of action while following established standards.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations and complete projects in a timely manner.

  • Ability to explain technical data in a form understandable to patients, families, and hospital staff.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in utilizing electronic health records (EHR).
