Innovation Transformation Lead for GDO

What you will do

  • At Amgen, Global Development Operations (GDO) plays a critical role in delivering life-changing medicines to patients faster, smarter, and at unprecedented scale. As our pipeline grows in complexity and ambition, how we design, deploy, and enable our workforce must evolve just as boldly.
  • This role sits at the heart of that evolution.
  • As a Director within Global Development Operations, you will lead the design and execution of foundational capability infrastructure across GDO—ensuring our pursuit of excellence through innovation and transformation of technology, process and of hiring, onboarding, training, and functional communications are intentional, coordinated, and aligned to enterprise transformation priorities. You will serve as a strategic integrator across changes with technology, process and workforce planning, talent enablement, and change management, translating strategy into disciplined execution that strengthens organizational readiness.
  • It is an opportunity to shape how GDO builds and scales its transitions, capabilities, partnering across functions to ensure the advances in our technologies and process ensure our capability plans are adapted and that the right people are hired, developed, and equipped to deliver from Day 1. Success in this role means driving clarity across complex transitions, embedding sustainable workforce practices, and enabling leaders to lead through change with confidence of major transformational changes. Key Responsibilities

A key member of the Operational Excellence team, this Innovation and Transformation Lead role is responsible for orchestrating and governing the core processes that enable technological and process advancement and how they translate into workforce readiness and functional excellence.

  • Understands future capability needs, enabling a future forward thinking for our team members to accompany technological and process advances.
  • Supports the development of a workforce capability plan, building technology shifts, process adaptions and how this affects the capabilities GDO will need for future success.
  • Leads execution of the GDO hiring plan, ensuring alignment with workforce strategy, sequencing priorities, and capacity needs.
  • Accountable to develop and execute implementation plans for significant organizational change, this is reflective of process, workforce, risk and communication components.
  • Establishes and maintains hiring criteria frameworks, partnering with functional leaders and HR to ensure consistent capability standards and role clarity.
  • Guides hiring manager selection to ensure accountability, capability alignment, and leadership readiness across new and evolving roles.
  • Owns the governance and management of required training, including assignment, tracking, completion oversight, and cascade planning across sub-functions.
  • Partners with learning and functional leaders to ensure training is timely, aligned to role requirements, and embedded into onboarding and transition plans.
  • Leads development and execution of comprehensive onboarding plans for new hires and transitioning team members, ensuring Day 1 readiness and sustained performance enablement.
  • Serves as the GDO functional lead for change management activities, in coordination with enterprise change management teams.
  • Develops and governs functional communications, including identification of communication needs, cascade strategy, message sequencing, and development of meeting materials.
  • Establishes structured communication rhythms that reinforce clarity, transparency, and alignment during periods of transformation.
  • Partners with functional leadership to ensure consistent messaging and effective stakeholder engagement across GDO.
  • Monitors and reports on hiring, training, onboarding, and change enablement metrics to provide visibility to GDO leadership and inform continuous improvement.
  • Drives standardization, scalability, and repeatability of capability enablement processes across Global Development Operations.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 4 years of  directly related experience within clinical operations OR
  • Master’s degree & 8  years of  directly related experience within clinical operations   OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of  directly related experience within clinical operations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Strong background in clinical operations and the business associated with portfolio delivery
  • Strong collaborating and influencing skills with a demonstrated ability to achieve goals and results in a highly matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute scalable workforce processes and governance frameworks
  • Experience leading hiring strategy, workforce enablement, or capability development initiatives
  • Ability to draft story boards and framing for organizational communications
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, including executive-level communications
  • Demonstrated experience leading functional or enterprise change initiatives
  • Ability to translate strategy into structured execution plans and measurable outcomes
  • Experience partnering with HR and learning organizations to drive workforce readiness
  • Strong project and program management capabilities
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity while driving clarity and alignment
  • Understanding of risk, finance and resource management and organizational capacity
  • Experience leading organizations through change

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
