Position Overview

Job Title:

Infrastructure Engineer Senior Manager - Compute and Storage Operations

This position will lead and support Cigna's HIH Infrastructure Platform. This person will manage a large team of Windows, Linux, X86 and Storage engineers that are responsible for driving that platform’s strategy. As part of this strategy, this Leader will need to be able to analyze the Enterprise environment, understand what tools and tasks are required to create and maintain a high performing Team, and have the strength and experience to execute and implement that plan. This role is entirely Operational and will require a Leader who has a background in Production Support and someone who understands that the job will require off hours support. In Cigna Technology Services, we’re continually looking for opportunities to create efficiencies in our environment that translate into automation toolsets that allow our Teams to do better work and eliminate repetitive, manual tasks. This Leader will have experience in the development and implementation of engineering solutions in support of projects and/or work requests for complex business solutions.

Job Overview:

This candidate must drive to the highest levels with their Team to make sure they understand, troubleshoot and can resolve infrastructure compatibility issues based on system architecture, project requirements, and customer expectations. This candidate may be involved in the creation of design specifications and the development and application of utility programs (scripting for automation toolsets) and may resolve infrastructure compatibility problems as they arise. This Leader must understand the Cigna's infrastructure environment from an end-to-end perspective.  This candidate may serve as the primary contact for vendors. Duties span server, network data, and some web portal technologies. This candidate should have experience with design, development and testing/debugging moderately complex operating system components, software tools, and utilities required for the operation, maintenance, and control of Infrastructure systems. This candidate will need to make moderately complex modifications to existing environments to fit specialized needs and configurations and maintains program libraries and technical documentation. A solid understanding of scripting technologies which assist in day-to-day activities a big plus.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Cisco UCS, HPE, Lenovo compute infrastructure, VMware/Hyper-V, Windows and Linux. Zerto disaster recovery is also included
  • Strong diagnostic skills aligned to all technologies listed above
  • Ability to apply principals across technologies
  • Experience with Vendor Management
  • At lease 5 years of experience Leading Teams who support, administer, and/or engineer Windows environments supporting 2019/2022/2025. This also includes RHEL 7/8/9
  • Experience supporting, administering and/or engineering of VMware Virtual environments
  • Strong scripting and automation knowledge and experience including proficiency in PowerShell. Python a big plus.
  • Working knowledge and experience with industry standard applications and protocols including but not limited to: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, HTTP, SMTP, SSH, and SSL.
  • Working knowledge of hardware platforms, IBM, HP, Cisco UCS a plus.
  • Experience with Cisco Intersight, Dell Power Flex and Nutanix OS
  • Hands on with IBM, HP, Cisco UCS hardware platforms
  • Working knowledge of best practices in server operations, including backup and recovery processes, disaster recovery planning and execution, server virtualization, and more.
  • Strong analytical, development, project planning and problem solving skills for a complex infrastructure topology, being active team participant to identify issues, root causes and solutions.
  • Strong personal planning and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service and customer support skills with the ability to communicate difficult technical concepts clearly to a variety of individuals of varying technical expertise and understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with a broad range of groups and individuals, including IT technicians, internal and external service providers, IT management and business unit staff.
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, to achieve deadlines for multiple tasks
  • Storage / Backup Skills
    • Knowledge of enterprise grade SAN, NAS, and backup environments, day-day support, reporting, monitoring, disaster recovery, code currency upgrades, security patching, hardware refreshes, and design concepts
    • Knowledge of Storage & Backup concepts, security, troubleshooting, and hardware
    • Knowledge with SOX/SOC audits processes
  • Knowledge of ITSM and Change Management tools prefer ServiceNow
  • A self-starter who assists with the design, engineering and development of information technology solutions who can mult-task in high stress environments
  • Will guide and lead their Team to understand the importance of excellence and ownership.
  • Will assist in the diagnosis (Root Cause Analysis) and correction of server hardware and operating system problems supporting both daily operations and pilots of new technology.  Assists in troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure compatibility issues based on system architecture, project requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Execute engineering Change Requests for assigned products and servers in compliance with Change Management Policies.  Participates in On Call rotation acting as the incident owner for after-hour’s infrastructure escalations.
  • Primary owner for incident management, problem management, and service request fulfillment.
  • Accountable for systems maintenance planning and implementation activities.
  • Accountable for proactive system health management.
  • Responsible for infrastructure operational readiness.
  • Develop and implement service improvement plans based on business-partner and IT-partner input.
  • Ensure services are consistently delivered and managed to meet service levels outlined in documented operating level agreements (OLAs).
  • Participate in Business portfolio projects and IT projects as required

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Any bachelor’s degree

Experience:

  • Minimum of 13-16 years of experience required
