Infrastructure Engineering Advisor – Mainframe Automation Engineer

Position Overview

This role provides counsel and advice to management on significant Infrastructure matters, often requiring coordination between organizations. Serves as Automation Engineer for Mainframe services.

 Job Overview:

< >Create and maintain SA/z Policy across multiple SysPlexes.Develop conceptual, logical and physical automation engineering designs that support the infrastructure requirements of varying levels of technical and business application projects to include:Software product migrationsNew Lpar buildoutsHigh Availability requirementsResiliency effortsPerform root cause problem analysis of production issues as relates to the automation environment.Support Disaster Recovery exercises.Assist in training junior Mainframe Automation engineers.

Responsibilities:

< >Monitor and execute batch processing on multiple platforms using line commands, menus and GUI interfaceMonitor z/OS Sysplex environments and respond to alertsInvestigate known error conditions and follow prescribed error correction proceduresRecognizes abnormal processing conditions and determine appropriate actions required to resolve issue(s) and complete processingMaintain production and test scheduling systems and new/improved work proceduresMake effective use of tools and resources, utilize manuals, write-ups and other tools as an aid in solving production and system problemsFollow escalation procedures when appropriate to resolve processing problems and user problems in a timely manner to meet SLAsCoordinate testing of applications, systems, processes and procedures, hardware and/or software changesAssist in identifying new tools, technology or processes that improve the overall processing environment or efficiencyParticipate in Disaster Recovery exercisesCoordinate Hardware and Software maintenanceIdentify, diagnose, and resolve hardware and equipment issues by referring issues to vendors and internal infrastructure and engineering supportCreate and maintain SA/z Policy across multiple sysplexes Develop conceptual, logical and physical automation engineering designs that support the infrastructure requirements of varying levels of technical and business application projects to include:Software product migrationsNew Lpar buildoutsHigh Availability requirementsResiliency effortsPerform root cause problem analysis of production issues as relates to the automation environmentSupport Disaster Recovery exercisesAssist in training of junior Mainframe Automation engineers

Qualifications:

Education:

< >Bachelor’s degree and equivalent experience requiredExperience:

< >11-13 years of experience10+ yrs of experience in IBM system automation Required Skills:

< >System Automation for z/OS: PDB navigation, CRT, MRT, MAT, TMR, MVCIBM Netview PIPES and Rexx Netview and SA product installation and maintenanceGDPS (MGM3SITE) administration & product upgradeISPF ClistsSA/IOMAgile processIBM SMUBMC AMI, CA OPS/MVS, or other Mainframe Automation products and toolsIPL experience in a sysplex environmentJES2 operationsHMC Console managementScheduling tools: CA7, ESPStrong JCL knowledge to diagnose, take corrective actions, apply overrides and job restartsFunctional knowledge of TSO (ISPF/SDSF)SA/z operationsNDM and FTP file transfer knowledgeInitiate internal technical recovery calls via escalation pathsEfficient with monitoring tools – Sysview, Omegamon, TEPS, NetviewKnowledge of DASD, VTSKnowledge of ServiceNowGDPS operational knowledgeAbility to use email, communicate effectively both verbally and written
