Responsibilities:
The Advisor role will report to the Sr. Manager – Mainframe Performance and Capacity Planning team. The position will play a pivotal role within a high-performing team whose main objectives are to optimize the mainframe processing environment, provide utilization reporting for the mainframe resources, and prioritize and tune the mainframe workloads. Capacity planning will also play a prominent role, providing senior management with information so they can manage data center costs effectively< >Data Collection: Gather and maintain daily SMF/RMF and SAS/MXG data and statistics related to all processing activities on the z16/z17 mainframe.Data analysis and reporting: Generating reports and charts on a daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc basis for internal and business partners. Production Issues: Work independently and with other teams to identify and address production issues.Performance Stress Tests: Collaborate with application teams to determine reporting requirements to measure application stress tests.Investigate system performance issues: Monitor CPU, Storage, CF, CICS, DB2, and MQ resource utilization and performance trends and deviations from trends. Capacity Planning: Strong analytical skills required to collect and present capacity planning strategies which maximize efficiency and reduce processing costs. Strong communication skills required to convey capacity planning strategies to senior management. Showback/Chargeback: Strong familiarity with show-back concepts to identify ownership of all mainframe workloads
Preferred Technical Skills:
< >TSO, JCL, SMF/RMF, SAS, Merrill MXG, HMC, z/OS Workload ManagerOmegamon, CICS/Performance Analyzer, Strobe Knowledge of all SMF types to generate reports for problem determination and hoc requestsStrong SAS programming abilityKnowledge of z16/z17 processor topology, zPCR and zBNA IBM tools.Experience with IBM SCRT tool and Tailored Fit PricingExperience in troubleshooting z/OS-MQ-CICS-DB2 environmentCapacity Planning and Forecasting AbilitiesKnowledge of Precisely-Syncsort Capacity Management tool, a plus
Education:
< >Any bachelor’s degreeExperience:
< >Minimum of 11-13 years of experience in Mainframe z/OS Performance and Capacity Planning.Qualifications:
< >Strong analytical and technical skills.Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, to gather factual data and communicate findings to senior management and technical partners.Acts with a sense of urgency.Ensure attention to detail.Ability to establish and maintain key relationships across the company
