The Opportunity

The Infrastructure Architect role will focus on Cybersecurity and be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting solutions for Abbott’s global network and border security infrastructure. This position emphasizes security architecture and requires expertise in security infrastructure, Zscaler, firewall technologies, and routing and switching. The successful candidate will serve as the technical lead for projects involving complex planning and execution across Abbott’s border networks, including detailed design development, proposal creation, analysis, and end-to-end project delivery. Responsibilities include timely engagement with platform customers, collaboration with peer technologists, and providing updates to senior management.


What You'll Work On

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert and provide consulting support to business and end-user organizations.
  • Lead discovery, design, approval, and implementation of firewall policy updates through security compliance councils.
  • Partner with Abbott’s Cybersecurity organization to identify solutions for data loss prevention and secure Abbott’s network.
  • Develop architecture and hardware requirements for cloud firewall and remote access technologies.
  • Lead large-scale remote access and cloud firewall projects.
  • Design large-scale enterprise LAN/WLAN environments, including switches, firewalls, and related network hardware.
  • Define requirements to support budget plans and recommend improvements for performance, cost efficiency, and business needs.
  • Evaluate and identify opportunities for network performance and functionality improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Negotiate technical design and deployment strategies with stakeholders and service consumers.
  • Design, execute, and support day-to-day service requests.
  • Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation.
  • Integrate technical expertise with communication, leadership, and business skills in a team environment.

Position Accountability / Scope

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Mastery of network security concepts and strong knowledge of data networking, including switching, routing, directory services, and TCP/IP fundamentals.
  • Understanding of encryption protocols and common system vulnerabilities.
  • Strong customer-centric approach and excellent communication skills.
  • Responsible for the global landscape of Abbott’s manufacturing businesses.
  • Stay current with industry trends and provide architecture roadmaps and recommendations.

Education and Experience You’ll Bring

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Cybersecurity Engineering and Operations, specializing in firewall technologies, remote access solutions (e.g., Zscaler), proxy services, web gateways, and VPN solutions.
  • 8+ years designing enterprise-scale routing and switching environments, MPLS/VPN, WLAN, intrusion prevention, cloud security, firewalls, monitoring tools, network topologies, load balancing, and WAN acceleration/QoS.
  • 8+ years of network experience in multinational enterprises with 5,000+ users.
  • Healthcare industry experience is a plus.

  • Check Point Firewalls
  • Zscaler, Palo Alto
  • Cisco Routers and Switches
  • Cisco/Viptela SD-WAN or similar technologies
  • Cisco ASA
  • Citrix Netscaler
  • F5 Load Balancer (GTM and LTM)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multilingual skills and experience in regulated environments.
  • Advanced degree (MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Telecommunications).
  • Active certifications: CISSP, CCNP, CCSE, CCIE.

The base pay for this position is

$99,300.00 – $198,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
