Job Summary: This position is in the Department of Technology Services (DTS), Cloud Hosting and Networks Office (CHNO) Infrastructure Engineering Division (IED).

Major Duties:

  • The IT Specialist (Network) reports to the Cloud Hosting and Networks Office (CHNO) Infrastructure Engineering Division (IED) and is responsible for supporting the networking engineering and design. This generalist/versatilist role will partner closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) office chiefs, division chiefs, branch chiefs and team members to empower the judiciary by providing national information technology (IT) services to judiciary, with specific focus on network planning, network architecture design and engineering. CHNO's IT services and related support services. The incumbent will support several Department of Technology Services (DTS) programs, including, but not limited to: Local Area Network (LAN) health services, National wireless services, court moves and LAN segmentation. The duties of the position may include, but are not limited to: Leading teams to produce network architecture artifacts depicting communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols. Executing procedures and coordination corrective actions to optimize network performance. Participating and leading in efforts to design, install, and troubleshoot network systems (including wireless) to meet the functional objective of the organization. Performing activities to configure and maintain physical/logical network components. Performing service management actions supporting capacity and resource planning. assessing network risks and contingency planning. Supporting the development, creation, and maintenance of current network device configurations, circuit information and operations network diagrams for network infrastructure including the development of database requirements. and establishment of data file backups. Developing process to inventory all data network equipment and perform periodic inventory audits/reviews to ensure switches, routers, and other applicable devices and applications are properly configured, utilized, and maintained. Performing detailed router scripting and filtering to manage network traffic. Mentoring new team members to ensure a smooth transition from learning environment to daily production environment and potentially participate in providing formal training. Developing job aides and other tools to assist engineers in improving overall quality of service. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions. Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience in ALL the following areas: experience with network infrastructure and hardware; proficient with infrastructure devices, including switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, and firewalls; and experience in designing, monitoring, and repairing local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN)
