Job Summary: Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

Major Duties:

  • Designs, implements and maintains complex in-house programs and sub-routines, including generalized record selection programs, linkage routines to operating systems, data communications systems and checkpoint/restart procedures. Responsible for data base integrity, backup and recovery, installation of new releases of system software, migration of new modules to the database, reviewing the test results of new applications programs to assure successful migration to limit access of sensitive data on a need to know basis. Responsible for the installation of new releases and maintenance of a complex telecommunications system used to manage the SENTRY Network and the SENTRY database management system.

Qualifications: To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. OR Experience: You must have Information Technology related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the Information Technology field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is Information Technology. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience in major operating system software, including the ability to modify code and diagnose and correct problems. Experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of specialized areas, remote job entry, computer security, telecommunications software, on-line systems, intra and inter-governmental transfer of data, database management, backup and recovery and formatted file structure. Experience providing technical expertise on mainframe computer security and monitors overall performance of SENTRY or their major applications and providing trouble shooting to determine cause of inadequate response time.li> Experience evaluating user's needs, hardware and software options, directing and formulating the design and testing of computerized systems, install hardware and software, and analyze broad system specifications . Experience recognizing and resolving hardware and software problems. AND Selective Placement Factor: Applicants applying for this position MUST also possess the following Selective Placement Factor. Applicant must have experience in the last twelve months using one or more of the following language or software development environments: C, C++, Model View Controller (MVC) Framework, J2EE, Java, JavaScript, HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and Structured Query Language (SQL). AND Applicant must have experience with one or more of the following operating systems or system level software: Microsoft Windows, MySQL, Web Servers, and PC utilities. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience.
