In a direct patient facing environment, the infection preventionist professional implements, promotes and maintains an active infection prevention program through surveillance, investigative activities, consultation, education, policy development and  

Research. 

A caregiver in this position works 7:00am to 4:00pm or 8:00am to 5:00pm. No on-call requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Conduct surveillance for hospital acquired infections; analyzes data. Generates reports, identifies trends. 

• Provide recommendations for improvement. 

• Investigate clusters of infections, outbreaks. 

• Utilize knowledge of microbiology, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient care equipment. 

• Develop and implement infection prevention policies and procedures. 

• Conduct audits on infection prevention practices. 

• Provide education and serves as a consultant to various levels of care providers. 

• Coordinate infection prevention committee meetings and other related activities. 

• Coordinate the annual infection prevention risk assessment, review, and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention plan. Reports communicable diseases as required by the Ohio Department of Health. 

• Collaborate with health departments in complying with issues related to outbreaks and control of communicable diseases. 

• Comply with mandates for state and federal public reporting of hospital acquired infections. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Bachelor's degree 

• Three years of recent relevant clinical experience including nursing, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, or medical technolog 

• Strong communication, clinical assessment, and computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs) 

• Certified in Infection Control - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc 

• CBIC is required after two years of hire date 

• CBIC Certification will offset one year of required experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Registered Nurse (RN) 

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
